1981 Benz 190D engine and trans already professionally worked through needs interior done
Id like to autocross and I have a friend says the smaller mercedes can be very performance oriented although the bmw is gas and the kids can work on that much easier although the dude tossed the whole interior for the bmw in the dumpster
My top price would be half the minimum asking.
From what Ive seen the Mercedes is about on point as far as pricing with the engine and body work done, theres no way id pay full price for the bmw though.
Plan on tearing it out and starting new? If you're taking that into account, I wouldn't argue. I wouldn't expect to find interior parts easily.

Just so you know. That Diesel Merc made about 70hp when new and slogged to 60mph in around 20 seconds. "Performance Oriented" is not how I would describe it.
Yes, if you want a performance W201 Mercedes the 190D is NOT the one to get.
For educational purposes... why not build a Locost? It's cheap, touches on a lot of different skills in a manageable way and uses a junked $300-$500 Miata and $400 in steel to get started.
There is gobs of support out there (and in here) and the plans are widely available for free.
One thing that had me leaning towards the bmw is it looks like a lot of work that I can have the kids learning on, no so much for the MB
That actually looks really similar to my kids dog but our dog has no lab in it at all

Interior would be much easier to replace.
