Remember this one sold not long ago for $57,000
And don't even get me started on ACVW prices.

Hey, they aren't making any more of them.
VIN plates, that is. Since that's all that's usable out of either of the posted examples.
The top one is an asking price so they could be out to lunch but the 356 sold for $57k? There is literally nothing usable there. Assuming it has a VIN then $57k just for a VIN?
Safe to say I won't ever be owning an air cooled Porsche!
If gearheadedness is a disease, air-cooled Porsche fandom is the flesh-eating antibiotic-resistant strain of it...and I'm glad I never caught it.
I did have an autocross student a month ago that bought a 356 to 'restore' 20 years ago. All he did was park it in his garage and look at it. Increased in value $30k. He never turned a wrench. He thinks the bubble is quite nice.
The Speedster sold for $57,000 on Ebay in November 2013. Maybe it would look better from a different angle.
Or maybe not....

Totally but you are looking at 100K for just a motor case right now.
As for that targa that is nuts! I could see it for a 1964 or a RS with some race history though.
You guys are suggesting aircooled people are not completely nuts. Even my friends who have loved aircooled junk all their lives think aircooled people are completely nuts.
Its the price of buses that kill me. At least a 356 or Beetle could possibly be a bit of fun to drive.
It wasn't that long ago people were fabricating ac cobras around original hood hinges (with a vin stamp). A speedster carrera is easily a $million car so at that level, it could be worthwhile to build one from scratch. The 911s targa - that one is a little off the reservation.
You just need to look hard to find the bargains. This "restorable" 912 can be yours for a mere 4 grand. It even comes with one and a half seats.
