Oh, ouch. Well, these cars are so well documented that as long as there is still some of it left it can probably be rebuilt.

Lots of things could be hand fabricated for 3 million.
Was that multi-car Ferrari accident in Japan more $?
how about that one historic race a few years back where about a dozen one of a kind race cars from the 50's and 60's were destroyed?
well good on him to be out driving it. that's why Enzo built em. Most all of these have been wrecked at least once

Yeah, this one was the first thing that popped into my head.
That car had already had a re-body in the 70's I believe. Just glad no one was seriously hurt, (other than the broken leg).

Exactly. It's not like it was all original or anything. I'm sure he's upset about it, but let's face it - the owners of these cars live in a world where the cost to repair one isn't much of a concern.
The VIN plate is the most expensive part of the car Still, if the car has particular provenance or originality bonus points then a major repair would cost more than the actual repair bill.
Sorry to hear it. I love the GTO. I was at Le Mans last weekend and was completely taken by surprise by the Ferrari touring laps.
Keith: "Holy cow, there's a GTO! Those are really rare, they only made 39! And there's another one! AND ANOTHER!" (followed by a lack of comprehensibility as they continued to go past)
Janel: "They don't seem so rare to me..."

I understand that there are several instances of having the same VIN attached to 2 or 3 or more cars.
Car A gets repaired, Car B gets built around the from the cast-off pieces, both cars are acceptable as genuine.
I think the big dollar car was on the track with the others. It's nothing like the pics above - a fairly soft color.
The GTO in question was blue with a yellow stripe. The light green one (pastel?) was built for Stirling Moss, who never got to race it due to his accident.
Just for GTO porn purposes:
