I have been on the fence with dumping the flex and getting something that can haul a booger trailer. This means a truck. I have been shopping raptors because they are fun, hold value better then anything else and we'll it's a raptor.

what I want is a F250 single cab in 4x4 with the 7.3. Something that o can daily drive, that had the big bed but is short enough actually fit in the city.

ford goes up to the xlt, Chevy has about the same and ram has the tradesman.  In are particularly appealing.

did any of them do a lariat level interior in a shortened in any size truck at one point. New seems out and used might be the only way to get something like this. I realize o am comparing a gem 3 raptor interior to a single cab but that is what I kind of want.

I suspect it to be near possible to find a lux and single cab version as the market moves to 4 doors.

Here's another...when was the last time you saw a single cab dually?  Not that popular of a combination any more.  In theory, you can order one but my guess is only in work-truck trims.

that is just so cool looking!!!!   One reason for the crew and super crew cabs being duel rear wheels is they have a longer chassis. This makes for better towing in terms of stability etc.

Met a guy years ago at Lemons towing with a (fixed) 6.0 6spd single cab standard box F350 Dually. He raved about it. I thought it was the coolest thing on 6 wheels.

Funny enough there are a lot of duellie single cans available locally. All are dead base trucks.

Grab an XLT, have leather and heated seats put in.

Speaking of longer chassis. I came across this image recently and found it interesting.

I read that article -- IMHO it's kind of lying by omission and statistics.  The graphic shows the most popular model of F-150 sold each year, and IIRC they rescaled them so that the overall lengths were the same.  This is useful for demonstrating how the propotion of truck dedicated to cargo has changed, but it implies that you can't buy truck with long bed any more which is not true.  You can, it's just that most buyers aren't interested in them.  Also, the caption title would be more accurate if instead of reading "How the F-150's design has changed" it said "How the public's taste for F-150s has changed".  Ford didn't force those design changes on the public, rather like any other successful company they took note of what sold the best and made more of them.

Anyway, I know you didn't write it, but that article annoyed me when I read it. :)  But yes, you can't buy a single cab other than as a work truck these days.  I'm not surprised by this -- most buyers of high end trucks want to be able to carry more people (or at least more stuff in a lockable, weather-tight space), and the people who want to maximize cargo are usually buying the vehicle for their employees to drive around so they aren't really inclined to spend money on luxury interiors.

Chevy offers the WT and LT so you're not loading up in luxury here.

What I find interesting is you can build a WT 4X2 3500 with one package of necessities for a low price or load her up and double the price.

The trouble is getting a dealer to order you one on the GM plan.

Yeah the ford seems the best bet plus leather seat skins. The ram is not bad but the dash is old.

so 2023 F250

7.3 gas motor, 4x4, xlt with FX4 package, power everything and fuel alternator/ battery so I could put a big stereo in is about. 50k plus tags. Not bad deal actually given the resale value. Would rather spend 20k more and get a raptor though. The short interior gen 1 raptor could be a thing as well but finding one with low miles would be a chore

digging online to find the link but a friend I have been talking this over with days there is a dealer in the Midwest who takes the single cab 7.3 trucks and supercharges them. Allegedly msrp + 3k and 700/700 hp/tq and carb legal if you choose that blower you have to order the truck through them and not off the lot so some of the normal discount goes towards the blower.

Don't raptors have a lower towing capacity than the normal trucks? Softer springs and all that. Worth checking out. Cool trucks though

Sounds like something Lebanon Ford would do, but I didn't see anything on their website about it.

Why does a 3G Raptor ( suspension is terrible for towing and also it's just very large) figure into this but an extended-cab Lariat F150 with the 5.0 does not?

10,000lb towing capacity, 1800lb payload

Might consider giving these a look (I will note, Ford no longer sells this configuration -crew cab only in 23).

Unless you're set on towing a gooseneck, towing a large trailer long distances every weekend, or really need more payload, a half-ton is going to ride better, drive better, and be easier to live with in general.

I also agree with others that if you absolutely have to have leather an optioned-up XLT F250 with either new skins or just full seats out of a higher-trim model is not a bad idea.

I have a 22 F350 quad cab w/ the 7.3 and 10 speed in XLT trim and the FX package. It has cloth heated seats, a giant moon roof, decent stereo. It is a wonderful truck to tow with and for a big truck not too bad on fuel, I average 12.8 with fair amount of towing enclosed trailers. I came from a Suburban and this is every bit as comfortable  if not more and a ton more powerful. I think you will be happy with the Ford. Seats are easy to upgrade.

30 years ago, "conversion" trucks were really popular.  Basically applying the accessories and upgrades of a conversion van to trucks.  My boss had a single cab short bed Chevy with running boards, bucket seats, leather, power everything, twinkle lights in the headliner, etc.

I wonder if there are companies still doing it today and could apply it to a single cab dually?  Might do everything you want.

In reply to wearymicrobe :

My 2016 F150 regular cab is an XLT.  I could upgrade it by putting leather seats in. But when I go on long runs I want cloth.   Leather traps too much sweat and when I push for 22-26 hours straight with leather seats I'll always wind up with hemorrhoids . Cloth breathes  and I don't have that issue.

Ram offers the 2500 regular cab 8ft bed in Big Horn trim. It's in between Tradesman and Laramie.
