The rear bearings need replacing on the AW11 MR2, but the BGB shows may SSTs required. Do I really need an oil seal puller, a bearing puller, a control arm puller, and three other pullers just to do this job? Is there a grassroots method?

I have not replaced the bearing in my aw11 but a seal puller is handy to have but you can do the same job with a screwdriver or small prybar
I'm nto sure what a "control arm puller" is but I suppose if your going to take the strut assembly off you'll need to pop the tie rod off the knuckle I use a picle fork, or you can leave the tie rod on the knuckle and remove the other end from the inboard mounting thingy (technical term) (I really have no idea what to call that inboard pile of stamped steel bolted to the chassis, that the lca and tie rod bolt to, there a name for that?)
the bearings I suspect can be driven out with a brass puch and a bfh with the assembly still on the car but I could be wrong
I'll say this for bearing pullers, seal pullers, control arm pullers, etc.....You can usually get by without them but every time I've used them I thought "Good GOD why didn't I do this last time?" The time, frustration, and amount of bodily injury saved by their use is really significant. Mostly for me it makes the difference between feeling like a job was pure hell and hating to see a wrench to thinking, hey, not bad, I really do like this hobby.
Of course, your local parts chain usually has any of these for free rental (or more normally, a fully refundable deposit). NO way I could afford to own all that crap!
