So I'm currently running a AFE Rebel 3in exhaust on my Colorado, which was to accommodate for my lowering not leaving room for the exhaust any longer. I love the side exit look, but I'm not a fan of the drone, especially with my slightly raised RPMs due to my shorter tire changing gearing. Currently I've got this https://afepower.com/afe-power-49m00031-mach-force-xp-3-409-stainless-steel-muffler installed, and unfortunately the exhaust setup does not leave room for adding a resonator as shown in the below image. Muffler body is 14 inches, with a 18 inch overall length, which also limits me to what will fit.

Any suggestions on things that might help me get a slightly quieter interior sound? I think this muffler is geared more towards a louder sound so if there's something that fits it should make a decent different. It's not the end of the world, but it does get slightly old. I think there's enough flexibility with the layout I also am not concerned with the offset either if it's a central in and out or completely offset.

I'm tempted to try out the Flowmaster 13014310, but I'm not sure if that would be much quieter than what I have https://www.amazon.com/Flowmaster-13014310-DBX-Muffler-Moderate/dp/B004TRXMFK?th=1.

Search for Helmholtz resonator.

My answer was, is, and forever shall be, Walker Dynomax Super Turbo.

You can also manage drone some with the direction and shape of the outlet.

I've been seeing a lot of recommendations there, pulling the trigger on Amazon unless I can find something in stock locally. Thanks!

I know I'm not doing myself any favors with the outlet coming out right behind the rear passenger door.

Talk to the guys at Solo Performance - they make several lines of indestructible stainless steel exhaust component and I have found them very responsive to questions like yours.  They produced a custom system for one of my cars at no surcharge.

I have a couple.  Love them.  I will say, however, when the tailpipes fell off and I put a couple side exits, the drone became very obvious.  I think most of his droning is location rather than muffler.

What's the radial clearance around your piping? As in, if you ran a long round-cased muffler, how big could it be? If you've got two inches to either side of your exhaust basically everywhere, try this thing: 34" case chambered round magnaflow. There's also a 30" version but by my eyeball estimation it looks like you could run this muffler basically from your flange all the way to the 90.

You could always try a glasspack upstream of the muffler itself.  Typically helps to attenuate some of the drone.

Another thing that is awesome at killing drone is a restrictor in the exhaust tip.  The exhaust will cool off between the engine and the tip, so it doesn't need to be so large.  I have put 1 7/8" restrictors in the tip of a 2 1/2" system and found zero measurable power loss while completely killing some resonances.

It's easy enough to experiment with.  Say you have a 2 1/2" tailpipe.  2 1/2" OD is 2 3/8" ID.  A 2 1/4" ID pipe will have a 2 3/8
OD.  So grab a reducer adaptor from the FLAPS that has a 2 1/4" ID on one end, insert it small end first, hold in place with a self tapping screw.  If you don't like it, it can come right back out.

Curtis is correct, that will be an easy fix....make it with a sliding tube to vary length to get it right then weld it up.

I made one for my titan which is famous for drone with headers/aftermarket exhaust.

They work amazing, got rid of the CIS on the outside AND all drone inside the cabin.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I'd love to try out the Helmholtz resonator, but I don't know if I want to deal with going to a shop to try to get that sorted out, and I unfortunately don't have the space or welding skills for that kind of DIY right now. I'm going to stick with giving the Super Turbo muffler a try, if it's not a good enough reduction then maybe the silencers. There's a good chance this will be all I need as I'm right on the verge of being annoyed with it currently. I only need that slight bump down smiley

The extended muffler up to the 90 is another good idea but I'm not sure I've got the clearance near some of the bracing. I appreciate all of the insight, this was pretty useful info to look at.

Thermal Research and Development is what I would use if piecing together a system.

I would keep the existing exhaust and just add in an in-line round resonator. They come in all different sizes and will quiet it down, especially any drone.
