I get the weekly mazda motorsports email I started perusing the Mx-5 stuff for cup. Does anyone know if the Sachs dampers and springs are upgrade materials or just factory stock?

second question, if it comes from Mazda, is it legal in CS? I know at one point there was a "trunk kit" for the NC.

Pretty certain its an upgrade. The dampers would be legal for C/Street as long as they don't have more than 2 adjustments or change ride height. The springs, if they are stiffer or change ride height (and I'm reasonably certain they do) would not be legal. And, yes, Mazda made these parts, but they weren't factory equipped and sold on regular production cars to regular customers, so they wouldn't count as "stock parts".
Now, if Mazda had made an MX-5R that Joe Schmoe could walk in a dealership and order and register for the street, then you could legally put them in your NC, but you would have to entirely convert your NC to the specifications of said MX-5R. So if it came with different sized wheels, or no ABS, or different lighter seats or what have you, your car would have to match all those specifications and options and would have to run in whatever class said hypothetical MX-5R was elegible for.

Thanks. I kind of figured that for CS. the OEM dampers I believe are also Sachs. So maybe they are totally different, or just re-valved? I could run CS or STR at this point. But STR would require more money sunk into the car to be at the limit of that class.

I did verify different part numbers, so that's a good thing

The message kicked back undeliverable. Those Sachs shocks are double adj, remote res threaded body shocks made specifically by Mazda Motorsports for the MX5 Cup racecars. They are nothing like factory stock and are a major upgrade. You can run pretty much any springs on them, but the Cup springs are Eibach 700/400lbs. I have a set of shocks that was rebuilt and then tested once, haven't been used since, if you're interested we can exchange info.
In reply to Clark18 :
Just looking at them on the Mazda site, even WITH my discount, they are still out of my price range.

They previously cost more, still over $3K I'm guessing. Cheapest used price I recall is around $2,200, I'd sell mine for less than that.
