The high windows offer privacy, but let great light in.
I think my favorite part of this shop will be the view. Standing in the middle of the shop I can see the water and watch the boats go by.
I'm visiting a friend for Easter. He's got a hybrid pole barn too, but he used his as an outdoor patio structure
My progress is slow, because I really only have about 1 day a week to work on this, but I've got walls!
This past weekend was time to build the storage loft. The 28' beam and columns were salvaged... should have no problem holding up about 5000 lbs. They were just gonna throw it away!
I'm thrilled to have NO posts in the middle of the shop!
The shelving is repurposed too. There are a lot of medical facilities and commercial spaces that are taking all their records to electronic storage. They are disposing of really good quality metal shelving they no longer need.
...and YES, I have an amazing helper!!
She was excited to have been 50% of the muscle that raised that 1000 lb beam into place!
She's a keeper!
In reply to SV reX :
Are you implying that she lifted 500 lbs!
[Russian voice] Strong like bull, smart like tractor! [/Russian voice]
Man, I dig the no columns and the loft. I love lofts in garages.
Me being me, I'd turn the loft into an office/lounge space and just hang out in there.
Looks great!!
My ex's garage has a similar beam spanning the width. When she bought the house, her father saw that and immediately dug up a trolley hoist from his stash and installed it the following weekend. It's definitely come in handy for unloading big, heavy items from pick up truck beds.

Yes she did. (With ratchet straps and a floor jack!)
Smart like tractor!
In reply to Ian F (Forum Supporter) :
Yeah, the trolley hoist idea was suggested to me this weekend. The way I framed the floor would make it pretty difficult, but it's such a good idea that I may have to consider doing it!
Awesome P can't wait to see this in the flesh......hey is that a 'tiny house' on the property? And the garage doors are what flavor of rollup?
In reply to AngryCorvair (Forum Supporter) :
Thank you sir!
I'm chomping at the bit because I REALLY want to make progress, but I am unfortunately going to have to let it sit for a couple weeks.

Every day I'm tempted by Govdeals
Every day my lacking of a truck stings just a little
In reply to GIRTHQUAKE :
I have avoided Govdeals. I'm pretty sure I would get in less trouble with hookers and blow.
GovDeals is how I ended up with a shuttle bus and accidentally bought a P71. Who knew a P71 would sell for $1300?
It's a good place to get in trouble.
In reply to SV reX :
Where are you finding the hospital shelves? I genuinely need some for my garage too.
In reply to GIRTHQUAKE :
Well in my case, I have done a lot of renovation work in hospitals and commercial spaces. I am right there when they make the decision to throw them away, and I claim them. So I am a bit of an insider.
But if I wasn't there, they would be disposing of them. They would be headed to the landfill, scrap metal, or most likely a commercial furniture place who carries desks, demountable partitions, etc. Those companies are seriously over-stocked with tons of this stuff they can't sell. They are either selling it at a deep discount, or getting rid of it on Craigslist or something.
