Isn't that awesome! He is 15 and he built his own Hornet race car as much as he could. He stripped it himself, rebuilt the top end of the motor with coaching only from me, installed the seat, window net and harness, cut and riveted all the tabs on windows and bumpers, pulled out the AC and power steering, and bolted the seat in. My work was limited to bending and welding the cage and installing the door bars. His first time out he did three sets of hot laps, a heat race and a main and finished 11th out of 17 cars for the night.
It must be said that he ran a much cleaner race than I did. that's me pushing a rookie into the wall

Congrats, very cool that he is into the sport! I was lucky enough to dirt bike race with my older son when he was a kid. As both boys got older we rode together for many years, it was a great way to stay involved with their lives without igging them out. My younger son (he's 28 now) is going to a TT with me next month, I'm sure he will get the bug, hope he will be able to do some events in the future and we can hang out more often. Enjoy sharing time and experiences with him and good luck staying ahead of him, kids seem to get faster while we get slower.
That's great :) Your son built a nice looking car too.
Man, my wife won't even let me teach my kids to shoot, much less race. Not that I can race.
Fortunately, my wife grew up at motocross tracks with her family because her dad raced, and I have always raced something or other so it was not a big stretch for her to see her kids start to take an interest. She is pretty proud of him too.

I wish we had some place doing that around here. Congrats to both of you - looks like a great time together!
