I need a new (to me) truck, requirement 4 wheel drive, 4 door and fairly cheap to maintain,

candidate 1 is a 2004 S-10 , 4.3 V6 with 220000kms (approx 140000 miles)

 

candidate 2 is a 2004 colorado I5 with 278000kms (approx 170000 miles)

 

I have an old f350 1ton with a 350 chev swapped i for steel runs and dump runs.

 

What do you folks think?

Price and condition are most important with those but I think I would rather take the bus.

Gun to my head, have to choose, I’d lean towards a Colorado over an S-10 but really whichever is in better shape is the right answer  

Just driving the 350 swapped 350 not an option?

I have been driving the 350/350, but its only 2 wheel drive and its a total pig on fuel (fun as all get out but thirsty), winter is coming, and I dont want to do the slip and slide this year

With those as your only choices......save the money on a new truck and go buy some top of the line winter/snow tires for the 350/350 and a bunch of sandbags. The money saved will more than pay for the gas your current rig guzzles.

I'd take a 2WD vehicle on dedicated winter tires over a 4WD vehicle on "whatever random worn all-terrains are on it" every single time. 

 

Blizzak WS965 or Winterforce LT tires will set you back about $600 and do the job just fine.
