Quick question: I've found a '99 or '00 Miata for sale locally, haven't called yet. It is black with tan leather and tan top, 5 speed, 15" factory alloys.
IF it has leather and a manual transmission, then it HAS to have a Torsen, correct? I didn't think to poke my head in the wheelwell to see if it had Bilsteins.
Yup. Leather and a stick = Torsen.

Sweet. Thanks as always, o bottomless fount of Miata knowledge.
Knowing Psteav, this is one of those "its in my back yard and cheap, should I buy the NB or fix my NA?" NM is more than a little ways from MO and he is a busy dude. Still post details though. Everyone likes to dream

He's got me pegged. I may go drive it next week (if it's still there) and if I likes, I will sell my NA instead of fixing the body damage.
JJ, sweet ride, but out of my price range and farther than I want to drive.
Well dont assume it has a Torsen if it has leather seats/interior. Could have had those seats/interior swapped into it.

Sure, it could have. It also could have had a Chevette motor and the CVT from a snowmobile swapped in. This one had all the other leather package stuffs, so it's a safe enough assumption to make me more interested in the car.
wasnt saying that to be a prick, was just saying to watch out. The amount of people that swap things in and out of these cars it would be me hard for me to trust it to have a torsen based off an interior. who knows maybe the torsen went out and they replaced it with a open diff ??
Torsens don't really "go out". And yes, there are a few cars that have had the rear ends swapped - but very, very few. Most Miata owners are the "what a cute car for a sunny day" type of owners, the hard core are the minority. Unless the seller has a whole fleet of modified ones, you can be pretty sure the rear end is as Mazda intended. Interiors are a PITA to do a full color swap on, so that's pretty unlikely. it's more likely that someone would swap in an interior from a different year instead.
