Looking for a hood scoop that points forward, big enough to accommodate 500 hp of LS3, doesn't look WRX clownish, and has some kind of provision to close if in a torrential downpour. I want to blend it in just in front of the MAS right where the leading edge of the hood meets the front headlight panel on the TR8. Very similar to what you would get on an RX7 hood line. Saw a Toyota pickup that had a pretty sweet looking low and long one, but I think I need something a little bigger. Would rather grab something from the junk yard or buy an off the shelf speed part. Somehow I will need to incorporate an air cleaner and a 4" duct to the MAS. The Camaro I parted out came with a CAI so I can go that route, but as you can imagine, the engine bay is getting cluttered as it is.

Would something from a Mustang work?

Me personally, I'd do anything I could to not add a hood scoop.

Ram air ducted from the grill opening?

I would be more tempted to open up the area above the bumper. The TR7/8 already has a couple of small holes in the plastic filler piece between bumper and nose, I would modify that piece to allow it to flow more air and ram that back to the engine via ducting.

Barring that, I would consider doing to your nose piece that Porsche did to the nose panel on the 924 Carrera, they punched 4 holes in it and put small grills across them to allow air back to the intercooler, you could do similar to the nose on the TR8.

Either way, your triumph would not have it's looks altered much and would be all that much more fun as it would just look like an old sports car, not some bastard child of lucas and the corvette

AAR cuda scoop, or an air grabber setup made in the shop. both could easily have a cable actuate flap for rain.

I, too, need a hood scoop for the charge cooler. I am debating going with something cut out of some other vehicle at the junk yard, welding it in and smoothing it out versus getting a cheap clownish stickum tape ricer-boy wanna-be type at vato-zone, something that people would look at and say "Hey, look at the fake vato-zone hood scoop. Goes with the fake BOV. Ha ha."

Hard to be stealthy with a full roll cage, flared fenders and big ole sticky tires. Building it like a GT1 race car but just barely street legal. Don't want to sneak up on anybody. Don't want creature comforts. Just want to go real fast. If it pisses people off and nobody else wants to go for a ride in it.... Good! I have other TR8s that are built for going and getting ice cream in. I'm thinking some kind of junk yard style shaker setup. Nose is a pin on and I'm building a new hood out of the Camaro's aluminum skinned hood anyway, so why not cut a hole in it so the scoop can pop out. I want it to be subtle and look like it belongs there, but it needs to be wide and not very deep. Saw some aluminum aftermarket ones on Ebay for Ford apps that look intrigueing. I can build whatever box goes under it and holds the air cleaner. There isn't much room up front above and beyond the radiator. That nose slopes away down to a grill opening above the bumper thats only an inch and a half tall. I could incorporate it into the front bumper which is going to be fiberglass instead of that ridiculously heavy stock bumper, but thats more ductwork.

Here's one:

Though it sounds like you want that at the front of the hood, or possibly even further forward, in between the headlights?

That one on the TR7 is exactly what I'm looking for, but down at the front edge of the hood/headlight panel area. Don't Corvettes do something like that? Another idea I came up with involves coming straight out thru the mass air and then a double elbow pointing sideways. I could run cone filters down in the lower part of the front fenders. One on each side. Something like this right off the mass air. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Aluminum-Y-Pipe-Air-Intake-Twin-Turbo-Intercooler-Piping-Dual-3-to-4-/251647230734?hash=item3a9758030e:g:glkAAOSwd4tUF513&vxp=mtr

Technically you are looking for a "bonnet scoop". I would keep it as small as possible. this one was good enough for double naught seven.

The Corvette one you are thinking of is probably the C6 Z06, and it's integrated into the 1-piece ABS front bumper:

I like how the 2nd gen Firehawk split the scoop between the bumper and hood:

As opposed to the Trans Am, which just tacked the scoops onto the hood and made a 4-nostrol looking thing:

FWIW, I think you should go the 924 GTS route, too:

Another vote for the 924 option, given where you need the airflow to go. You probably already know that we use LS7 intakes on our Miata setups. It's even got the MAF provision in place.

Your split intake setup sounds like a lot of aftermarket intakes for C5 Corvettes.

You'll need to log in to post.
