My BIL is at the Hummer dealer looking at H3's. My sister just called to ask me about the I-5 engine durability, but so far my searches have turned up very little info. So I'm looking for good or bad anecdotal info on these engines -- the new one is 3.7L, but info on the 3.5L is probably applicable.
you've got 30 minutes. GO!
Its slow and heavy. Add a supercharger and it is still slow and heavy.
There are better trucks out there, but if he is compensating for something, it will probably be fine.
Hope he is getting it cheap.
he's "that guy." saw a yellow H2 in front of the dealership a few years ago, walked in and bought it. that's how he rolls.
i just spoke to my sister again. she was reading the standard equipment section of the window sticker, not the options. they're looking at the H3 Alpha, which comes with the aluminum-block 5.3L V8. He made an offer which they didn't accept, so they walked. He's going to be in Detroit next week and will probably buy one up here because it'll probably be $2k cheaper than in MD (house #1) or FL (house #2).
so, disregard my panicked request for info on the I-5. and move along, because there's nothing to see here.
The I-5 is fine engine... but mileage is the same as the full size truck.
so, buy the Tahoe with more options and be happier
Tell him in the long run it's cheaper to just go ahead and get his goober enlarged.

my sister says he doesn't need a larger goober, which is TMI in a couple different ways. yuck.
