89 chevy 2500 2wd, turn ignition to start truck and gauges peg in all different directions then fall to normal running positions once the truck starts. Turn on the lights and the gauges do it again plus turn signal indicators are on solid. Also with the lights off but putting on the turn signals the gauges pulse. I have a shop manual but really have no idea where to start.

Any help will be appreciated,

Brian

First and foremost, check your battery connections. Make sure they're clean and tight. Also trace the earth lead and make sure its still well attached and doesn't have excessive resistance.

Sounds very much like an earth or power supply issue.

Sounds like a bad ground in the lights.

Bad grounds can cause power to take unexpected paths to complete the circuit.

Check all your lights to see if any are out or on when they shouldn't be, that can help identify where the bad ground is.

Also replace any bulbs on lights that are out or on at the wrong time. I've seen dual element bulbs fail where the filaments will short together causing strange electrical symptoms.
