Starting from scratch. Going to start with either a recently expired ATL fuel cell or just pick up one of those shiny aluminum non certified ones on Ebay. Beyond that, advice is needed. Is one of those in line high pressure Walbro 255 pumps sufficient? Read where they can make 60psi. What do I need for the LS injection system? Do I need a surge tank and a lift pump? What do you guys recommend for a pump, filter, and regulator? This is my first go round with anything other than carbs.
Easy answer for the filter and regulator is the C6 Corvette unit. It combines both. Run a line from the pump to the inlet, a return back to the tank and a long line up to the fuel rail. AN makes your life easy, you can just snap/bolt it together.
If your pump is below the bottom of the tank, you shouldn't need anything other than a good strong inline. That's what I did with the MG.
Do NOT get the Russel quick-release adapter with plastic fittings. Get the all-metal one. The plastic ones are failure-prone. I've had one come off on track, which results in 60 psi of fuel blasting all over the hot engine. Exciting.
Bad vs good parts:
I just make plastic lines and, for a returnless setup, use a late C5 fuel filter, which is a GM type quick disconnect filter with a 58psi regulator/return built in. And they are silly-cheap!
You're right, it's the C5 that we use as well.
I misread your post... I thought it said fuel pump module. I wasn't sure how that'd work, but there's lots of different ways to do things and most of them are ways I haven't tried, so who was I to judge?
Bad night last night, bad day at work. Just ate some food, feeling better, should feel better still tomorrow.
Yeah, the C5 filter / regulator def makes life easy. WIX 33737. $40 at Summit. Just make sure you know which fitting is which, it's not labelled! I honk the single end is the output, the offset one on the side with 2 is the return to the tank.
And yes, using AN makes life easy, if a little pricey. I thought Russell discontinued the plastic quick release ones?
The Walbro should be fine - it's a lot smaller and cheaper than a Bosch 044.
So Walbro mounted low, aluminum fuel line and AN fittings to Wix 33737 and aluminum return line. Does the filter mount near the tank, or up on the fuel rails somewhere? No adjustment on the Wix regulator filter??? 58psi is OK? Life was so much easier when it was a Mallory pump running thru a Fram HPG1 fuel filter and then up to a regulator with a gauge at the carbs. AN fittings are cool, but I'm a plumber and 99% of the time I have nice brass fittings here that do the job for free. That, a roll of aluminum fuel line and cushion clamps usually work for me.
58 psi is perfect. GM knows what a GM engine wants. Put the filter near the tank, less length in the return.
Use AN or plastic or aluminum, whatever floats your boat. You will need quick-release fittings for the rail and the filter - you can get "fuel line repair kits" that give you a hose barb.
It's no more complex than a carb. Change "carb" to "fuel rail" and you've described what you need to do. The only difference is that handy all-in-one filter/regulator, and you can make them separate if you really want.
