So when I was on a roadtrip over Christmas vacation my 2012 Tucson got hit in the back left and isn't drive-able. It's currently sitting in Newberry SC and I need it shipped up to where I live in Chicago. The towing company/body shop the car is in will do it for $3 a mile which works out to about $2,300.
Any suggestions on a reputable company that can do it for about half that amount?
I've already spent a week dealing with the insurance company and they flat out refuse to pay for it, whether the car is repaired in SC or in Chicago.

Fly n drive. You could have been there gotten it and been back in a day.Its what, a 11 hr drive? You'll waste more time and money debating with insurance and setting up shipping. This is also the only way you get to inspect the body shops work before taking delivery.

The insurance is refusing to repair it or ship it to Chicago?
My mother wrecked her car on her way home from visiting me years ago. I had to have it brought the 40 miles back to Frederick, MD to be repaired because they would not pay to transport it the 150 miles to Pittsburgh where she lived.
My suggestion is to ask on here for a reputable repair shop in the area where the car is and get it fixed there. Then you can fly/drive or what ever to get it back to Chicago. It would be cheaper to get it shipped if necessary if it was driveable.
Uship.com has quotes as low as $686 for Columbia-Chicago. Can't imagine other locations in SC would be much different. Only possible way you could beat that with flyn'drive is if the car is near GSP or maybe Myrtle Beach.
Burn it to ground, inform insurance company of ruptured fuel line from the accident that wasn't noted and repaired. Take the new larger check and just purchase a replacement. (Berkeley insurance companies)
Apologies, should have said before, the car is not drivable and insurance refuses to pay for shipping.

Thank you for that info, much appreciated. I'll look into it in more detail.

Ahhhh, thought you had already had it repaired and were just pondering how to get it home now.
Why not just have a body shop fix it there then pick it up when its done?
Will the car move under its own power? If so I would rent a U-haul truck (if needed) and car trailer and drag it home. Or Uship sounds like a good route.

BTW, when you say "the insurance company", which of the two insurance companies are you talking about? Yours or the one of the person who parked their car in the back of your Tuscon? I'm obviously making the assumption that you didn't back it into a lamp post at high speed here...
remember Uship is assuming a normal driving vehicle. Plan for slightly higher rate if it can't get itself (easily) onto a carrier.
I was able to schedule shipping of my car back home to me! (and at a reasonable rate, not the freakin' $3,100.00 the body shop wanted to do it...)
Thanks for all the suggestions, it was very helpful.
