Don't do a black firewall on one of those trucks. Either stock with just the inner fenders black, or body color everything. It sounds like you are planning to sell it, and a black firewall just makes it look poorly done.
I was afraid I would hear a chorus of that. Maybe I can get the same color in a rattle can. It's roughly the same color as original, but obviously it's a bit worn now. In the trucks, stock, the small sliver of inner fender and the firewall is body color and the inners are black.
I also think these may work well even though I want the original look:

Paint the firewall and fenders body color like the original. All black just looks horrible IMO, (and I agree with you that all body color looks bad, too).

This is MY personal favorite, so far. Clean and I like the colors. Doesn't look like anything over the top custom-wise/money-wise. I would think the plug wire routing should be able to work with the ramhorns using some imagination, too (and yes, I realize the distributor is on the opposite end).

I like it too. I wonder if it would look as good with a flat black engine bay. This picture makes me realize the value of the yellow cad look on the booster et al as well.
White performance sells this for $28 Air cleaner
There was a 510 on Jay Leno's Garage recently that had trunk "spatter paint" done in the engine bay. It looked kinda neat. I though that paint was somewhat water-based, though? Would it stand up??
I am a big fan of the shave and tuck. Not the same one transvestites like though... one where you remove all the chaff and hide the wiring. The blue chevy above looks clean.
Paint it body color or, if the car is really dark then go contrast and keep it light.

I think I saw something like that. I looked at it for about 15 minutes before deciding that it would look too weird.

No canoe, but I've been eyeballing paintscratch.com for a while. They'll inject any factory paint you want into rattlecan form for $26, and also sell larger batches. I'm sure there's other sites like this(and would like to hear about them, hivemind!), and not certain you couldn't have it done locally for the same or less coin, just food for thought.
