This place is weird enough that I'm sure someone is a PT Cruiser expert. Anyhow, here's the situation: A relative of mine living in South Africa owns a PT Cruiser and asked me to look into finding her a new ECU, since according to her local shop, the ECU is bad (oddly, in SA they call the ECU the "Calculator" lol).. She sent me the VIN and a said it is "Version PTYN5XL1" whatever that means.
She also sent me this photo of the current ECU
So, digging around ebay I'm not really finding any with the correct "Module Part Number" shown on the label and I only find one or two with the P05033326AE p/n, but plenty of other ECUs for 2005 PT Cruiser with various other numbers.
I'm not really sure if it's because this is a non-US market car, or what the relevance of the "authorized software update" sticker is vs. waht appears to be the original sticker.
So, if anyone here knows what ECU would/would no work, please post up!
I'm not sure on PT Cruisers specifically, but on other Chryslers I've dealt with from that era, you can use a different letter revision of the same ECU part number without issue (AE would just be slightly newer software than AD, but the same emissions package, etc. as the part number is the same). So drop the AE from the end and see what you find. Different numbers will likely be slightly different variants (different country, emissions package, turbo vs NA engine, etc.). I know for US cars federal and Cali emissions are typically separate PCM part numbers.
I just did a quick search on ebay. Drop the P from the beginning of the part number and you'll get a lot more hits. Looks like the part number on each sticker comes up as for a 2.4 NA manual trans. I'm thinking the part number on the software update sticker is either from a re-flash to convert to a different country package, or just an update. So I'd be inclined to go for that number. I'd also stick to a PCM for the same year unless there's confirmation that you can interchange.
Paging professor brap....
TIL, Chrysler sold the PT Cruiser in SA.
I did know that VW sold the Citi Golf (Mk1 Golf/Rabbit) in SA until 2009

There's even a club with 168 members on FB

Just to add, she said it's a 2.4L NA, 5MT
PCM version is one part and yes Chrysler part suffix is revisions AA-AX
Where there's going to be a struggle here is with the SKIM system, if you're shopping used you'll need the key, SKIM receiver, and pcm you're intending to swap in (can use old lock cylinder with some clever zip tie work.
Alternatively you'll need to flash VIN, SKIM ID ( can be tricky in and of itself with a used SKIM/PCM)

Ugh, that sounds super inconvenient, crap. Thanks for the heads up.
Does anyone have a line on a place that sells refurbished ECUs who will program the VIN and also ship internationally?
Hope I'm not stating the obvious... but you could maybe ship to/from SA??
yeah that's also possible. They don't actually live in SA currently actually, they live on Reunion Island (a french territory in the Indian Ocean), and direct shipping there from outside of France literally costs a small fortune (literally, three digits for something this size). So they're looking to have their daughter in France purchase whatever and she can use (subsidized) French mail for cheap delivery.
Flight Systems near Harrisburg did all the heavy lifting on the Mopar stage whatever PCMs for SRT4s and last I spoke to anyone there were able/willing to reman Chrysler NGC1 through NGC3 PCMs
