A guy that lives down the street from me seems to have an affinity for very slightly broken less than decade old cars. Since I moved in two years ago a v6 "new edge" mustang that's dirty as hell (looks like it drove cross country in the winter and then never moved again), s2000, RX8, and older ranger with cap have been in this guys driveway without moving. He did push the RX8 and S2k out of the driveway when we had a big windstorm, but none of them have been moved under their own power in at least the two years I've lived here. They're all getting pretty bad "lot rot" (you know that mildew that grows all over cars when they don't move for a long time) but don't appear to be broken in any obvious way. He has an FD RX7 in the garage buried under a mountain of junk. There's also an F150, Grand Cherokee, and Civic Si that drive. The Si is the newest addition and has caused him to begin parking a car in the street.
As far as I can tell it's just one guy and occasionally his kids that live there. His car collection doesn't bug me, but now that it's moving out into the street it's getting a little out of hand IMO. I certainly don't want to bring code-enforcement attention to our street since my Z-car project lives in my driveway under a cover with no tags or registration (or most any body/interior components really lolz).
I've been tempted to ask what he'd take for the s2k. It's starting to look pretty ratty but would probably clean up nice. I'm sure it'd need a new window on the top and tires at the very least.
Maybe I should go try and make a new friend and see if I could do the right thing and take one of the sports cars off his hands as a favor lolz.

Do it! And then bring an S2000 to the Challenge!
I'm "that guy" except that all my stuff is older and junkier and probably way less presentable. My neighborhood tolerates it because I'm a nice and helpful guy (if someone needs some advice or help, I'm usually the go-to guy). It's also an older neighborhood and we can get away with stuff the newer neighborhoods can't (think: chickens roaming the street...lol).
So, I'd say make friends with the guy before assuming too much.
Clem
The guy doesn't have good follow through.
He sounds like one of these old ladies that have umpteen cats in their house and they keep taking in more.
Do it. My cousin picked up a 911S for $2,500 simply by asking a guy if he wanted to clear out his driveway.

ok....your cousin sucks...

+1. OCD + ADD + an affinity for alcohol and $100 cars + loving nothing more in life than to abandon an 80% finished project for a new one - (minus) time, money, and motivation = that guy.
We have lots of cats too...though we do feed them, clean up their poop-boxes (they have their own room in the basement, complete with massive fart fan, where poopin goes on) and our house is pretty damned clean if I do say so myself. But yeah, I suppose I'm a bit of a "collector" type.
The worst thing about "those types," is when they get all offended when you ask if you can buy something, but never do anything with it and it just rots.
I hate seeing good project cars rot away for a decade while the collectors are waiting to do something with them.
I get project ADD, but I am ready to send stuff down the road when I'm done with it. I need and everyday car (appliance) and a project car, and that's usually it.

+1. I've lightened the pile recently, and used some of my abandoned stuff to acquire cool, usable stuff. Hopefully the new owner of the General Tso will fulfill the prophecy.

What!?
It's still "in the family." I just don't have to trip over it anymore...or pump up the tires once a month...or curse my wife for accidentally brushing against it. Plus, she got a "workout room" seperated by a black plastic dropcloth in the basement, so there's a line of demarcation between "Hong Stuff" and "Your E36 M3."
