Almost time to start thinking about my tires for next season.  I heard rumors of falken coming out with a new one.  Anyone hear anything else?  I've been waiting for them to release sizes before I order.  I'd like to give them a try.  Seems like we're due for some new releases.  Although the RE71rs dosent really seem to have a need to be improved on.  I'd just like them in my size.

What's the word on the new Yokohama 052?

Apparently really good if your car has the camber to support them.  If you wear shoulders, these wear worse than usual.

Any info on 15" widths being offered?

Other than the new Fallen and the A052 7/32" model that launch last year, no real news on the horizon for 200tw at the pointy end.

The new Falken is a move in a good direction from everything I've heard. I've not seen any data behind it yet though.

as KyAllroad said, the A052 is the business. They put down power really well and work from the word go. They are more expensive than the other 200tw options though. And they start 2-3/32" shallower than the other 200tw tires.. so yes.. they have a reduced life and people who have overdriven them on camber limited cars have destroyed them really quickly. They also seem to work best with camber....

Global Time attack has also made these their spec tire for the 200tw classes.. so you'll be fighting with those drivers for tire availability. But if you're not chasing trophies on the National solo level, I'd not worry about the Yokohamas.

So for 90% of the autocross world, I'd say find a set of RE71R's in your size and be done.

If you're wanting to endurance race or do time trials the Hancook RS-4 is the best bang for the buck tire because it wears like iron and they need a bit of heat to work.

I love my A052's but I'm also curious about the new Falken 660's?  They usually have CAM friendly sizes and I can't see them releasing a new 200TW tire at this point if it isn't going to be competitive.

^Yeah I don't like that the really hot 200TWs aren't ever sold in CAM sizes unless you run 18s. I want to stick with 17s.

For endurance racing the RS4 is hard to beat.  Competitive times, lasts forever, reasonable prices.

If they can improve upon the 615k+ and maintain their prices, even if it's still not at the pointy end, more life than the pointy 200tw could mean it has a place.

I do not expect it to be truly competitive.

Well, which market are they going after? 200tw has ether the autoX market or the endurance racing/track day market

In reply to Sonic :

same market they've been in as an affordable track day tire with good wear. They might be closer to the RS-4, but I don't expect them be in the fight at the pointy end with the stones and BFG's and Yokos.

Competitors in SSC have taken well to the availability of the tire and Falken has shown their commitment to making sure availability is always there on the spec size. I expect they'll remain the spec tire for SSC in 2020, but don't actually know that for sure.

I keep wanting a 245/40R15, or even a 225/45R15, RE71R. But it seems my hopes are in vain.

I'd buy a set of the 225/45R15. I've had Rivals in that size.

I've had Rivals in that size (didn't much care for them), then had Nexens in that size (berkeleying loved those but that's as wide as they come) and now have stepped up to 245/40R15 Rivals (Still don't like them, but need the grip)

I just put my money on the federals. My tire guy cannot get the falkens, and was told by falken the 615k can only be purchased through tire.rack now.

I'm hoping falken will put out a 245 for 15" wheels.  I'd order an re71r immediately if they offered that size.

Spend the money and try the 225 Yokohama in 15" or get a set of 16" wheels and try the 245 they offer there.

doing some looking around, it looks like hankook is giving up on 15".  Tire rack now only list a 195/50/15.  What gives?  Are they planning a new release?  with as popular as 15s seem to be Im shocked they would stop making sizes for them.

I'm thinking there might be an RS4 replacement on the horizon or something.  The number of available sizes has dropped drastically.
