For those of you up here in the Northwest that have wanted to AX but were intimidated by rules, Oregon Region Porsche Club of America - ORPCA - is presenting our 2014 autocross classes for all non-Porsches (and non-Porsche powered Porsches):
- NPR - Non Porsche Rear wheel drive
- NPA - Non Porsche All wheel drive
- NPF - Non Porsche Front wheel drive
Thus concludes our rules. Yup, that's it. On HoHo's? Sure. Turbo kit? Whatever. LS swap? Yawn. AWD turbo LS swap in a 914? No problem.
We will be running nine points events in 2014, and you have to attend a minimum of five to be eligible for season championship trophies. Yes, that's correct, we do season championships for non Porsche's.
Also note that we will be doing "race within a race" all season long with different categories. In July for the Portland Historics, we will feature a race within a race for all historic (1984 and older) cars, with special trophies/prizes. March will be Green cars (painted green class and alternative energy class, so I expect a field of at least a dozen Leafs), and so on in that manner.
And for those of you scared about PIR's bumpy surface, we will be running at least two events at an alternate site, the decommissioned Trojan nuclear plant!
See you next season.
Racing at Trojan? Awesome!
Wonder what, if anything, I'll autocross this year. The Leaf might be fun, but I'm guessing that stock car on low-rolling-resistance tires is going to be novel once.
Also, not sure how close to Trojan I can find a charger
Maybe I'll make that a PIR event...
I'm excited. Looking forward to it.
So if I swapped the Audi-power in my 924 for another Audi power plant, would that bump me into NPR?

Sweet. I'm hoping to do many autocrosses with my Spark EV soon, so this is a great incentive for me to start getting serious pretty soon. When is the first event for 2014? I looked for something on the website without luck, I'm guessing you haven't solidified a schedule yet.

Not to threadjack Jav's PCA talk, but this is on the topic of AX locally; did you buy or lease the Spark? Any plans to improve its handling (or other aspects of performance)?

Actually, there's a fast charger in Scappoose, only 22 miles away. That means if you top off (for free!) there, you only need 44 miles round trip, about half the battery. That leaves you half of a battery to thrash the car should you so desire. There's also level 2 chargers just across the river in Longview should you need.
Remember, local infrastructure is one of the reasons you got a Leaf. Be careful using it as an excuse not to do stuff.

Put a deposit in on a purchase...still waiting on the car I special ordered to arrive (hopefully November/December). Yes, plans to improve it, but how is TBD. Watch for a "build thread" when it gets closer to arriving.

Awesome! I'll try to make it out in both cars at least once. For those that are geographically challenged, where does one find the Trojan Power Plant? "Near Prescott, OR" is as much as I can find.
Nevermind, I'm an idiot. Maybe I should have looked for a big ol' parking lot and a massive quantity of overhead powerlines.
