As a former XJ owner, it is odd that I don't hate it...The front end is what the new Cherokee SHOULD have had.
I'm sure it won't be available with a diesel in the US, so I don't really care, but it's at least oddly interesting.

From what I hear it's basically a Fiat Panda in Jeep drag so it should be an excellent purchase for the American equivalent of James May. That includes me, probably.
I'll be "that guy."

I'd venture to say that it would take a ton of sales from the Cube, Juke, and that Kia thing mostly on account of it being a bit less wuss-looking, and a bit more "Jeep" (and let's face it, a good chunk of Wranglers these days are probably driven by women, not men).
Just as a lot of tongues waggled when Nismo took the hideous Juke and made a "GT-R" version of it.....I'll wait and see when some Jeep aftermarket supplier makes a "tough" version of this. Think spare on the back, safari rack, some aggressive tires, some fender over-flares, etc etc.
Like I said, not a class of vehicle I'll ever have any interest in personally, but I think it's a good move by Fiat/Jeep for the people who want an alternative in the small-ute Juke/Kia/Cube category and the supposed "cachet" that the Jeep name carries. Especially 20-something women.

Somewhat fitting that they will be built in Italy. Some of the first jeeps in mainland Europe landed in Italy during WWII.

Look at the Big Brain on Brad!
(I just happened to read your name and your interesting tidbit of knowledge and I thought my comment fitting!
I doubt it will actually be built in Italy. The 500L, on which the Renegade is based, is built in Serbia.
You guys are reading the whole 1.4 turbo AWD six speed manual thing, right? It won't be a barn stormer at that power level, but it should be truly entertaining. A cute Ute with AWD and a manual! Yay!
XJ apologist here. I don't hate it either. Maybe because I know I wouldn't want anything in this segment anyway. Maybe because Jeep has watered their lineup down to the point that I'm not surprised. Maybe the little girl inside of me thinks its cute...wait that sounds wrong...I mean...
Put it this way, I don't hate it as much as the new "Cherokee". It hurts to type that!
