I think the Wrangler still has the old 5 speed auto, no?
Ok, well 6500lbs is a lot better. Geuss I'd have to wait after initial release to see how people are saying the tow capacity works in real life

Gotcha. Had a Chrysler 300S rental a few months back with the Pentastar/ZF combo and was really impressed.

Honestly I could actually see myself buying one a few years down the line. Once we have kids, I am sure a four door pickup will be needed and I'd like something smaller then a full size with decent gas milage. So the new Jeep pickup with a diesel or plug in hybrid might honestly be a possibility.

You could get your CJ5 new in '61 with a Perkins Diesel.
CJ10s, granted there weren't a lot in civilian hands prior to them being surplussed, but they had a Nissan I6 diesel option.
The Grand Cherokee has had a Diesel option, off and on since '05.
Pretty much every model has had a diesel optional or standard in most export markets since the '60s.
So, Jeep isn't new to diesels.
Word is the diesel is going to have a stop-start function like the 4 cylinder hybrid, so I assume it's going to have some "hybrid-ish" electric motor system or really beefy starter motor to help it get the claimed 30 MPGs.
Cherokees too. I think they were Renault.
Liberty CRD as well.
I just can't do modern Chryslers though. After my JK melted the cylinder heads for no reason in winter driving the Alcan and the support I got from them afterwards...even their new "cool" stuff isn't worth it to me.
