Ahead of an official debut later this fall, Mini’s all-new John Cooper Works model will be making its first public appearance at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring–not as a static display, however, but as an actual competitor in the race.

One of the drivers is a Brit named Charles Cooper. Not sure if he's any relation, but he could probably say he was and no one would ever question it.

I'll definitely be loking these guys up next week.

Looking over the team's website, Bulldog Racing has also competed with a 6-speed manual JCW Cooper. It finished second in its class.

That's a lot of shifting.

I have the same last name as a former prominent F1 team (several WDC's) from the 1960's - 1990's.
It never helped me with a girl, and only a few friends were even in the know.   Such was the sporadic coverage of F1 back then on ABC's Wide World of Sports. frown
What a waste of a good name here in the States. wink

More on topic, I'm interested to see this car compete on a livestream of the event.
Also, a New Beetle RSR?!?  That's one that hasn't appeared on my radar.  I'll have to look for it.

So JG, your going back to the event this year?  I really enjoyed your reports last year.

"24 Hours of Nurburgring" has got to be the most punishing race on tarmac, yes?  I guess I never thought about the race before since the 24-hour LeMans race is so historically prevalent and popular.  I think the Nurburgring is known as "The Green Hell", so LeMans would be The Big Fromage" or something I imagine.

Leaving next Sunday. Hanging with Hyundai again, but I'll be there early as well to peruse the pits and paddock before the crowds show up.

Taking the week afte the race off and my wife is flying over since her school year ended at an opportune time this year. Have another euro-only sporty compact lined up, and this one is worth taking a couple 'ring laps with, so I'll be taking the VBox as well. And, you know, seeing some castles and whatnot while we're chilling.

Every time I've taken a JCW out, it's been enjoyable. I'm looking forward to seeing what this next gen is like.

Indeed, that's Charlie Cooper, grandson of the John Cooper.
