the new LT1 is pretty much just an LS engine with direct injection and a few other upgrades, so what's revolutionary here?

Vortec heads are just iron SBC heads, too.

I wonder if if will end up being the next big thing since the vortecs... Sounds promising to me. I would imagine the head itself is basically an LS head with LT port/valvetrain/chamber geometry then? Bolt-in stuff is always nice.
For a minute I forgot that there's a new LT1, and wondered why I'd want an old LT1 head for my LS1.
Now that I've figured that out: it mentions accessory drive compatibility, but what about intakes and headers? And are these really any better than the current aftermarket LSx heads?
I assume this would enable adapting a direct injection setup to an LSx shortblock? I've never shopped around for a HPFP or DI injectors, what's the cost difference from that idea and just ordering an LT1 crate engine?
I don't think it would allow for DI, LS block doesn't have the provisions for the DI pump which runs off the camshaft. Being there are plenty of very good LS heads out there, I would like to see some dyno tests to show if these heads are better or not.

The vortec heads were a big thing because they were cheap new, or practically free off an old pickup truck.

And they flowed like the dickens and had decent combustion chamber shapes.
The new LT1 has a heavily skeletonized intake pattern. From what I remember it looks more like a Mod motor than anything Chevy ever did.

they are the only factory iron heads worth getting for a gen 1 small block... i have 2 sets, both on running engines..
also, this thread is about aftermarket heads- vortecs were stock production heads.. i wonder how these new heads compare to some of the bigger factory heads that GM has put on factory built engines?

And these could be big if they are cheap enough. I doubt they will be grossly expensive (which is the good thing about oem heads)
If you have a big bore ls, you can just buy the l92s. They are hard to beat for the dollar to performance ratio. Unless these work on the 5.7s and other small bore LSs or outflow the L92 and are just as cheap I don't see them being worth it.
I believe they both flow a little over 310 cm intake and around 200 exhaust.
The only plus I see Is apparently you can get the lt1 head for a small bore on an l86 (which flow about the same), and I believe the L92 only works on the big bore
The fact that Chevy keeps recycling engine names has me going " Why the hell are they adapting a Gen II head to fit an LS motor?" They need to stop this.

You'd think that they would keep regressing and go to LRn engines.
GM loves to recycle engine codes (and all option codes, like Z06 and others). LT is on its 3rd round, LS is on its 2nd. So maybe the next engine redesign will be LS again? Or will they go back to codes like L82? Time will tell.
Dodge is make big waves with their Hellcat engine. Hoping for the day that engine names, proper, comeback.

there's only so many numbers and letters, and "L" is the internal option code for "engine".. they might as well keep using the same codes for the good stuff that they always have..
Don't forget the hyphen... an LS-6 and an LS6 are way different, same for LS7 vs. LS-7.
I'd rather have the hyphen, myself...
