Well that first pic could sort of be a car history for you. Your 840, E36, E46, Audi.

Ha! Actually Suzanne told me. You just need to tell it to Mickey to complete the circle.
Damn this thread, now I want one! That nose is beautiful. That car really wants to go for an early Sunday morning freeway blast. Hell it's begging for it, was made for it.

Good point! Actually, the barely visible e46 in the one pic is mine.
So the big reveal was last night. I enlisted my dad to help me with the surprise. My wife and I had plans to go out for dinner to celebrate her birthday. He was going to babysit for us, as he typically does. So, earlier in the day, he and I went to my mechanic's shop to pick up the car. My mechanic put in a ton of effort over the past ~2 weeks, getting the punch list done. Some of the things done include:
Once we had the car, we stashed it in my dad's garage for the rest of the day.
He drove it over and parked it out of sight while we finished getting ready to go out. We walked into the garage, opened the garage door and then BAM! There is the car parked dead ahead! She was floored and loved it!! We took it out to dinner and I think she is really going to like it.
Here are some more recent pics.
Love it.
One of the coolest pillarless coupes and one of the most beautiful cars ever made. My head turns like its on a swivel every time I see one on the street.

Thanks! Until I bought the car and actually looked up the production numbers, I didn't realize how rare they are. Only 7232 (850s and 840s combined) came to the US from 1991 to 1997. No telling how many of those are still on the road.
HappyAndy wrote: What did you do with the other rims? What size are they, and would you consider selling them?
Still have them. I'll definitely sell them though. They are 16x7.5 5x120 et15. Tires are still on them right now. Fronts are ok, rears are shot.
Damn it... now i want an 8 series.
Nice work man. I surprised my wife with a new car once and she loved it. It was not an 8 series though.
HappyAndy wrote: On second thought, 7.5" wide is too much for a stock 525i
I think they will work. Quick googling shows lots of folks running them. They are forged wheels too, making them nice as well as light.
There are two widths/offsets though, aren't there? There is a 30ish et version as well that you see swapped on other models.

I don't think so (but am not positive). The wheel is the style 9, which only came on the 8-series. It is a square set up with an et15.

Can't agree more. The 18" M-parallels completely make the car. And after looking at hundreds of photos of 8-series with aftermarket wheels, I'm not sure there is a better option.
Sharp looking car.
I was down at Rennies Shop (Redline BMW) last weekend dropping off and picking up some stuff and he had an Alpina tribute 12cyl with a manual. Nice car and quite comfortable to sit in. Didn't ask for a test drive/ride though.

I doubt 1/3 of them......electronics failures sent far to many of them to the crusher.
Well, that or they're still sitting in people's back yards thinking they can get $12k for a ragged beat to hell one.....

It would be cool to drive a 12 cyl/manual version but I shudder at the thought of owning one. I looked into a manual trans swap for this car. It's doable but terribly expensive. That, plus the fact that this automatic is generally considered to be a great one, will dissuade me from pursuing it further.

These cars run the gamut on pricing. I've seen them for $5k to $30k. The ultra rare 850CSi (ostensibly the M8) can go for $35k to $75k, depending on mileage and condition. Only 225 of those were ever imported.

I agree, they're pricing is all over the place, but as most "BMW enthusiests" have money, that drives up the value. At least these aren't as bad as the z3M coupes......
I remember seeing a 6.0L v12 powered 850 with a 6sp on ebay for almost a year....that was amusing
I still love these cars, they're just way too big and heavy for my tastes.
Don't let the weight (~4200 lbs) fool you . . . these things can down right hustle.
My 740i weights about the same and has the same V8, that thing can move with the best of them, even without the pesky VANOS.
There are two of them local to me each around $5K . . . but are basket cases . . . more than what the average GRMer is used too . . .
