... I'm still extremely hesitant to enter a business relationship with Elon. He's the biggest impediment to buying a Tesla at this point. Which begs the question, if you don't buy a product because the CEO is a jerk how far does that go? I'm currently debating this dilemma.
This. My hangup is his unpredictability. There's always the feeling that at any moment, we may hear, "Meh, I'm bored with Tesla and am moving on." That's fine - for him - but what he says and does directly impacts the value of the cars." Him blurting out whatever comes to mind just doesn't make for a good business leader.

... I don't get this argument. "Oh Elon is a jerk I can't support him"...
Say you buy a Tesla for $XX,XXX. The next day, said CEO announces that he's bored and is leaving the company, so your car's value plummets. Even "good news" can hit negatively. Suppose tomorrow he says that the prices on Teslas will be reduced by a huge percentage - same issue, your hard-earned money going up in smoke. I wouldn't bet against him saying either of the above, and that unpredictability makes it a pass for me.

Not much different than dropping the price of new cars significantly. Before the recent price drop, model 3 performances were $50k used cars.
See, now, the Establishment Automaker thing to do would be to release the cheaper car under a new name so as not to undermine existing cars' value.
