So I sold my 1981 FJ60 Land Cruiser last year. It was a cool truck and I enjoyed having it for the 3 years that it was in my care, but it didn't really do everything I required of it well. I need something that I can tow my track car with, take the family camping in and my wife can drive in a pinch.
I bought a chevelle before selling the FJ so I have an old fun car to replace that side of the FJ experience... The question is what should I get to fulfill the other requirements...
I at first bought a 2005 Suburban Z71. Great truck it towed well, rode nice and had a ton of room. It was a little big for going off road though.
I sold the suburban and drove last years challenge lexus for awhile... It obviously couldn't tow or go off road..
Sold it and got a 2002 4Runner which was 2wd and really could not tow or go off road either.
Last week I bought a 2003 4Runner SR5 4x4 with the 4.7 Liter V8. I will sell the 2002 and drive this one. It should do everything I need it to and best of all only cost me $3900.00.
Nice! How about a photo under the hood?
Haven't had a chance to clean it yet. First thing on my plate is to replace the timing belt.
Started on it last week...
Started taking it apart and... Score! K&N filter. I also noticed that the oil filter is a Mobile One brand. Thats a good sign.
Thats where it sits now. I bought a timing belt kit including water pump, tensioner, and new seals for $250.00. I also picked up new valve cover gaskets for $40 since they are weeping and 8 new NGK plugs.
$3700.00 + $220.00 auction fee = $3920.00
$3920 + $250.00 Timing belt kit = $4170.00 + $40.00 Valve cover gaskets = $4210.00
Sweet! I love my 4th gen.
Uh, more pics of the FJ60 please...
Thinking of doing a 3 inch lift and maybe a set of 285/75r16's on the 4 runner. My son keeps asking when I will get another "monster truck".
Where can I stand in line for a $4000 03 4x4 4runner?
Looks great. Are the wheels plastidip or paint?
Either way they look good in the pictures.
Given the black and blue, I think this monster truck should be called The Bruiser.
I got it from Carmax. Hopefully I can sell the 2002 for 5k and end up with enough left over for the lift and the differed maintenance.
In reply to JohnRW1621:
Looks plastidipped. Haven't messed with them yet, thinking gloss black paint when i finish the timing belt.
