Also Down town Birmingham and Down Town Royal Oak are great on Thursday nights in the summer for cars. Autozone (Book shop not parts place) on Woodward in Birmingham is a sort of cars and coffee type thing every Saturday morning from 8:00 - 10:00 am in nice weather too.
I believe Ken Lingenfelter's 288 GTO has made it out there. A lot of his other cars have been there. But your right about the F1 and Daytona.
I have personally seen an MP4-12C out there though....

Biga on the corner of Northwestern and Franklin. I belive there's one in Royal Oak too, but I haven't been to that location yet. The do a great ginger martini 
The other great one is Crust on the SE corner of MAple and Telegraph. Again great Martini's
Buddy's is OK for cheap and cheerful carry out stuff, but not real pizza.
Amici's in Birmingham and Berkely too for great carry out, not cheap for carry out.
Ending in 2003, I worked in Southfield for about 5 years around Telegraph and 11Mile/12Mile. There used to be a restaurant on NWestern Hyw just north of 12 Mile named Bean and Cornbread - a Soulful Bistro, basically, upscale soul food, damn it was good! Is it still there? If so, get the pork chop with greens and a side of mac and cheese.
I'll go with Tomatoes Apizza for best pizza around here. Though I'm usually at Amici's since it's across the street. Oh, and Loui's Pizza is a step back in time too, similar to Buddy's.
There are only a few cars I've never seen at the Dream Cruise, like a two-stroke Saab. But I have seen a couple different Trabants, including a Tramp.

I only know the good food in the Ann Arbor area.
Best barbecue that I've found in Michigan (so far) has been Bonehead's out in the middle of nowhere. (Off of I-94, Rawsonville exit) It's a biker joint to boot.
Zingerman's Roadhouse generally has some excellent food. A little pricey, but the fried chicken there is awesome. They even did a really good rendition of grillades and grits, and that's coming from a Louisiana boy. (It's a Louisiana dish.)
I travel 30 minutes to Brighton for Italian food at Ciao Amicis. It's worth it. Lingenfelter is about 15 minutes towards Detroit from it. It's off I96 about 35-40 minutes west of the 696 loop.
Everything I've had at Station 885 in Plymouth has been wonderful.
I'd love to hear more good restaurant recommendations in the Canton/Plymouth/Westland area...

That was an "issue" a few years back, apparently there was talks of the empty lot and our lot to be purchased and turned into a hotel and our restaurant will be inside of it. There was some undermining and shady business deals with people who lacked control and everything fell through, lawyers and lawsuits and legal battles blah blah blah but thats long said and done. Now hunter house will stand as it is and I believe the lot next to us is now owned by the city.

The E30 is a project that I just undertook with my dad. He wanted to get into auto-x with me so we bought a car and started working on it.
Side note - Canada is not kind to older cars.
My first mod to the car was a stage1 flintstone mod (had to cut the floor out because there was so much rust!)

I'm currently living near the Fairlane Town Center mall in a townhouse. Rent is pretty expensive. Based on my calculations, I could afford multiple mortgages in some parts of the state. I also find that it's lacking a sense of community. I've been here since the end of August and have yet to meet my neighbors. I consider my current residence a beach-head. I really only had 2 weeks to find a place before I started. Renting my current place gives me a chance to check out other areas and get input from the local crowd.
Background info: 26 y/o male with more car parts and tools than furniture :P so a garage is definitely a must.
I've spent a few weekends in Ann Arbor going for drinks and a handful of U of M games. I like the area but I don't know what the commute would be like in the morning. It takes ~ 35 minutes without traffic.
Royal oak intrigues me. I haven't ventured out there yet but I hear it's a pretty cool area. I've been through Canton and I like the area. It's currently #2 behind Ann Arbor. Canton doesn't have the same "neighborhood" feel to it though.
Novi seems like a nice area as well. My gf loves the mall there.
I hear Farmington Hills is a nice area too.
Any info you guys can provide would be GREATLY appreciated.

What part of town are you working in?
I'm partial to the west side. Novi, Walled Lake, Commerce, White lake.
Ferndale, Royal oak, Berkley can be pricey and not much room for extra cars.
Where to live. AA is great, but takes itself way too seriously. I like down town Farmington, but not Novi and places like that. Maybe it’s my European background, but I really like places with a down town feel and area you can walk, eat, see movies etc.
I’ve lived in Plymouth, AA, Novi, Farmington, Dearborn and now for the last 12 years in Beverly Hills. At your age I’d be very interested in Royal Oak, Ferndale, Berkley etc. or Beverly Hills. Those first three have nice communal centers. Beverly Hills doesn’t have a down town as such, but I frequently walk up to Birmingham to go to a bar/restaurant/library etc. You can still get a nice 2/3 bed detached with 2 car garage (detached from the house) for circa $100k in Berkeley or Ferndale. Royal Oak will be more then up considerably for Beverly Hills and Birmingham.
I feel an Oakland county beer night as a welcome committee in the making over the holiday period. I propose Baston brew pub in R.O. one night after Thanksgiving.

I'm pretty much sólo me. Two guys I went to University with also work with me but aside from that, the closest person to me is my gf in Toronto (Thank god for cheap train tickets). The rest of my family and friends are all back in Ottawa. Actually, Rob (ZOO) would be the next closest person to me :P
I'm flying back to Ottawa for thanksgiving but I'd love to get together the week after.
Bring a map to beer night, we can plot out the different parts of town for you to look at.

nope I usually do t/r/fri after 5:00 sometime fri/sat. My day job is around the corner where I'm full time but contract hire pays diddly squat and no overtime. If you see the mazda2 there. I'm there.
It's pretty awesome to be young and live in Ferndale. Tons of great bars, restaurants, a good local scene. Lots of young single people too. You can get a decent house with garage for less than $100k. I rented for $700/mo. I could have bought the house next door (3 bedroom with detached garage) for $30k. My advice would be to buy something very cheap and live in Ferndale, then rent it out when you want to move on. Commute shouldn't be bad.
We ended up in Berkley near Royal Oak. RO is alright, but prices are inflated because of the downtown, even miles from Main street. Berkley has a tiny downtown and has a very community-oriented neighborhood feel. Our house 18 months ago was $100k for a 3 bedroom with a very large, maybe 4 car, detached garage. Berkley schools are the best in the area, but that probably doesn't factor in your decision.
I would also check out downtown Plymouth. It's a nice little city with much less expensive rent or mortgages than Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is great, but it has not had much of a housing price collapse.
