So I'm pretty new to just about everything cars beyond them being a simple appliance and me thinking some of them look neat (and there may have been some street racing when I was a stupid teenager many years ago). Last fall I bought myself a 2006 Nissan Sentra Se-r Spec v to try and learn on (I've just always liked them). I want to learn the mechanical aspects as well as get involved in some fun events. I don't know anyone personally with this stuff so I learn what I can from reading books, forum posts, and watching videos. There's three rallyx events near me this summer and I want to go watch the first one and then take part in the next two.

Anyway... what I'm trying to find out right now is an SCCA rules/classing question for rallyx, these events aren't actual SCCA but they utilize their classes. It's been mentioned many times over on a Sentra forum I follow that the pre-cats on the stock exhaust manifolds are terrible and can destroy the engines and that getting it out and putting in an aftermarket header is the first thing that should be done. What I can't figure out, and so far have received no response on - which is why I'm asking here, is would this put me in prepared or modified? I'd love to just be stock to learn, but I'm scared of the risks with that pre-cat. From what I understand of the rules a header would simply be in prepared, but since it's removing one of the two catalytic converters it might bump me up to modified.

Any help or knowledge is much appreciated. And if anyone happens to live around NE Wisconsin and knows of some events to check out, I'd love to hear that too. Thank you.

Welcome! You're in the right place to learn just about anything about, well, just about anything.

Assuming you are removing one and there is still a cat in the system you are in prepared. Multiple cats can be replaced by a single one.

SCCA Rules said: Functional catalytic converter(s) are required on vehicles equipped with catalytic converter(s) as original equipment. Any high flow catalytic converter(s) are allowed. Multiple catalytic converters may be replaced by a single unit. The inlet of the single replacement converter may be located no further downstream than 6" along the piping flow path from the original exit of the final OE converter.

In reply to moxnix: Ok, thanks. I wasn't sure how that would be interpreted since I'm simply removing one of two and not actually replacing it. I didn't know if that meant a single more efficient one would be needed or not.

Don't forget one thing here ,what your saying is you are Now going to Squeeve Twice as Much exaust through 1 used cat instead of Two. So sell those to the rebuilder and buy One High Flow Racing style Cat. also will it "Read" with just 1 O2 sensor you may need to Have 2 Bungs in the pipe.Unless you keep them in the stock location but not knowing those rules, what I just read you Can move the cat 6" further Down stream from stock Location which sounds like they expect you to use a freeier flowing exsust from the Manifolds back.
