the scrap yard in Joliet, Illinois pays one price for regular accounts that get paid by check monthly and if you are a "cash" customer you get less per pound.

I brought the front end sheetmetal to a jy a while back in the bed of my truck. Stopped at the window: "does it run?"

"Actually, I have scrap in the back, that's my daily"

"ohh.... sorry!"

I took the E150 to the junkyard with the throttle stuck 100% open, burning brakes and screaming engine all though our little town

To answer the original question, I got rid of the shell of a miata by posting on Craigslist, or maybe search craiglist for "junk cars" or the like. It didn't have an engine or suspension (or interior or valuable parts, etc), so they didn't give anything, but they still towed it away for free to me.

Good enough!

3 car batteries, a hot water heater,2 Subie radiators, 2 gti seats, and two dozen brake rotors netted me $98.66 today. The three batteries were good for $27 of it.

Around here you have to have a license to sell anything non-ferrrous. It hasn't helped. The tweekers around here that steal catalytic converters and bronze grave markers should be hung up by their ball sack. As well as the metal yard owners that buy them.
