So I was looking for a Rallycross car but I figured why get a car I would only use 11-12 times a year so I started looking for a 4x4 instead. I was going to look at a 98 ZJ Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited but was searching Craigslist and Autotrader at the same price point as the ZJ and came across a 99 Land Cruiser that I had seen back when it was first posted this year for like $9000. The dealership now had it for $5995 which is in kbb and Nada range for a Land Cruiser with this mileage. I look at the pictures and it is the cleanest Land Cruiser that I have seen posted recently and sure doesn't look like 422k miles so I look at the CarFax and it has been serviced since new at the same dealership that is was bought from in Mechanicsville, Virginia, with 89 service records in total including timing belt changes at the recommended intervals. So I went and test drove it and it drives like a 100-200k mile car and not one with 422k. Only issues are 19 year old car issues like slightly wonky drivers window switch, the wood trim for the drivers, passengers, and center stack is faded and starting to crack, and the steering wheel is deteriorating so it is a little sticky. The only rust is on the muffler, there are 2 very small bubbles on the passenger rear wheel well that I will take care of. So it came home with me.
Good luck. The general condition doesn't show that kind of miles. Looks pretty good.
Those seats are amazing for that kind of mileage. The leather seats on my 2005 Sequoia with 120k on the clock look way, way worse.
Given the number of miles, it looks sweet!
I drove mine in to work today. 98 LX470. Every time I drive it, I say "This thing is awesome."

My daily driver has 560,000 miles on it, and I continue to trust it for 1000 miles per week.
I have absolutely no fear of high mileage vehicles.
Good luck!
looks great for the miles.
At a certain point the miles dont matter anymore anyway, its the shape of the vehicle and if you told me that had 60k, i wouldnt have been suprised
Wow, that makes me feel like a lightweight. My daily is a 280k golf TDI.
You’ve got guts! But that thing looks amazing.
Many folks around here have them on Craigslist with 300,000+ miles on them. I was looking a few months ago and was surprised to see these.
Meanwhile, in a parallel universe...

How is this possible? The longer you drive them, the cleaner they get?
In reply to 2002maniac :
its one of those things that once you get to a certain mileage you have to have taken care of the vehicle well enough for it to last that long. So they tend to be super clean once you get to a certain mileage.
That effect is why I'm generally most scared of cars in the 100k - 150k (or a bit past that) range. Younger and it probably won't have suffered too badly from any previous neglect. Older and still in good shape? It's probably been cared for well enough.
Too bad that other 400k+ Land Cruiser is so far away... Otherwise I'd be tempted for that price. But I don't really need another high mileage SUV anyway...
That looks really good for that mileage! The seats are most likely redone, I have been looking at these myself and new seat skins are a common thing.
These are the LSeat.com seat covers I put in mine. Three bills. Can't beat it.
They have relaxed a bit since this pic and the wrinkles are gone. I also recommend some Scotchguard followed by Lexol on them before you put them back in.
Dang it, now you've got me wanting a Land Crusher again. If you're going to own a rig with a E36 M3 pot of miles on it, that's probably a very good one to pick, as they're just so hilariously robust and overbuilt. I looked at an FJ80 a few years back with a very hard 220k on it and that thing is still cemented in my memory as probably the most monolithic feeling vehicle I have ever driven.
I fear low maintenance, not high miles.
Good for many more miles if you keep caring for it, no doubt.
Just got my new keys cut and did the programming for them since it only came with 1 key. Man the programming procedure is a pita.
Yeah, the part where you dance around the truck anti-clockwise while chanting "Toy Yo Da... Toy Yo Da..." is the hard part of programming those key fobs.
Had a friend who would buy Toyotas at 100k and sell at 200k. He believed it was essentially free mileage. Usually worked out that way.
