Wow. Just wow. It has been almost 2 months and she is totally smitten with it. Never seen her like this with a car. It is such a nice place to spend time. Osmium Grey with Charcoal interior. Even splurged on Volvo cargo rails and box.

Crazy how a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder drives like a V-8.

The XC90 is to me the nicest SUV that isn't a Cullinan or a Bentayga. It's a knockout.

Do you just ride in the back seat?  Because, I think that is the place to be!

Edit: oh, wait, that is the XC90 Excellence that has the two seat rear seat.

Still, the Inscription is no slouch!  My neighbor has one (parked next to his 2010 Bentley convertible.)  The seats in your Volvo are sublime!

Those new Volvo's definitely catch my eye. The XC90 like yours and then the S90? Looks great and really upscale.

Is this the one with that wild twin-charged motor? Either way, I love Volvo's current design language.

In reply to mtn :

Interior I could see the argument for. But, while the exterior is not bad looking at all, it's not a standout and i think the XC90 is. It's got a TON of road presence and looks more premium than any Volvo ever has. Imo.

Thanks guys, it is so quiet and the nappa leather on the best seats I have ever been in are great!

The active headlights are so smart: https://vimeo.com/124554845

Along with all the safety features, HUD, large animal detection, self driving, self parking, an app to remote start, precondition, lock, all the tech. It may achieve self consciousness and revolt but until then it is the ultimate road trip family rig.

In reply to thatsnowinnebago :

Yep, supercharger way overdriven blows into turbo. Then at about 3500 rpm turbo is spooled, electromagnetic clutch kicks supercharger out and air bypass opens. 316 horse. No detectable lag.

My wife loved this car when she saw the interior at the Detroit Auto Show a few years back.

They are beautiful inside and out for sure. I have a coworker with an XC90 and a car enthusiast coworker who got his wife an XC60 and they are both really happy with them. I love that Volvo is still making wagons in different sizes too. What to impression of the driving feel? Any joy in there or purely an appliance?

The Chinese ownership and the complexity of their drivetrain rubs me the wrong way though. The T8 plug in has a battery and motors along with an internal combustion engine with a turbocharger and a supercharger. If they can actually hold up long term, it will be an impressive feat of engineering.

I am with you on the complexity being worrisome, but it seems very well engineered inside and out. Basically they only have one engine block for everything now, diesel and gas included. It is a stout piece from what I could find out. They had some ring issues right out of the gate but changed ring design and went to premium fuel for some insurance. The T5 is just turbo, T6 adds a supercharger, T8 is just a T6 with electric motors added and a battery in center console area, slightly larger brakes to compensate for the weight.

It is very engaging to drive in dynamic mode, almost too much throttle if there is such a thing. In comfort(default) it is still nice to drive but does the annoying stop/start thing and is a bit soft off the line unless you give it a good dose of throttle. It handles and drives very similar to CX-9 we came from. Just faster and more quiet. The 20” wheels seem perfect, I could see the 21 or 22s being harsh maybe? I was very surprised it wasn’t a soft, numb driving experience.

I still have dreams about a V90 in Maple Brown Metallic with the Amber interior:

(looks so much better in person than in this picture...)

If I could just get past the $57K price tag...

DW loves her 2017 S60 with the T5 version of this engine.  It's a very nice daily driver and even without the twincharging it makes plenty of oomph down low to move the 60 chassis.

Ride and handling are nothing to complain about, though of course it is not intended to be a sports car.  The interior is very comfortable and well put together, although clearly a bit of a lame duck waiting for the 2019 m/y redesign.

Driving her car and reading this thread are doing nothing to make me want to keep dailying the trusty old 2004 TSX.

I'm with the others on the Chinese ownership; but, the current design language from Volvo is on point.
