It would be interesting to see if the Roadkill guys could get close to this on a $100k budget in a non-production car. I’d probably start with a 3rd or 4th gen Firebird
All I have to say is, LS all the things.
Top speed record? Sure.
Pushrods? Yep, that too.
The video is nuts. It looks like he doesn't even push down on the gas pedal until 200+mph. The run from 200-331 is only ~25 seconds.
I guess in the end it just shows that a road you can go 330+ on costs more than 1.9 million dollars (the car). We will run out of roads good enough to do faster runs on before we run out of rich people's car money. Of course, the road builders (governments) could just do what the rich people do and siphon more of the wealth of the proletariat so they could build better 400mph roads for rich people's cars, but realistically they can't do that because the rich people will hire upper middle class people to complain in the legislature about how this unfair taxation is going to increase the administrative costs of the apparatus they've developed to siphon wealth from the proletariat. Oh, irony.
Impressive car!
This car weighs 2750#, the same as my Fiesta ST. A FiST with 1750hp is a mind-blowing concept.
Also, it could be the next Batmobile as is.
That is an amazing feat of engineering and balls.
I have to wonder if the owner called his insurance co before to see if this was covered.

Fastest I've ever driven is 180. When this guy slows back down to 180, taking a hand off the wheel so he can do his victory fistbump, it looks like you could get out and jog alongside. Impressive if somewhat ridiculous. So Nelson Racing builds the engine, flatplane crank and all, anyone know what this thing uses for tires? Lol Z rating
Tires were a limiting factor on the Bugatti top-speed runs. What the heck kind of street tire can support 331 mph?

Funny you mention roadkill the Tuatara's engine is the creation of tom Nelson

Tom Nelson did the engine in David Freiburgers f bomb camaro

The Bugatti had tire issues because it's an AWD pig that weighs 4400lbs. This thing is RWD and weighs 2700lbs. Probably a literal ton less force on the tires at those speeds.

I thought the same thing. Like wait, the turbo's are just now spooling up as he hits 200?
That was just bonkers.

OK, fast car and all that. but was no one else a herpetology hobbyist in their youth?
The question that presents itself is why the car is named after a lizard that survives only in New Zealand, is the sole representative of an otherwise extinct order of reptiles and interestingly (to me, anyway) possesses a third pineal eye on the back of its head.
Did I miss an explanation for the name?
In reply to nderwater :
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires are what the article says they were using.
Expect marketing from Michelin soon.

Freiburger is in the 200mph club at a number of venues with a Camaro, but getting over 300mph would be a huge step up in horsepower and aerodynamics.

The impression I got was he was in no hurry until 200mph. Maybe to reduce heat, or maybe because he was waiting until a certain point for the speed measurement to take place?

The lizard is the fastest evolving lizard, from what I read. That's why they chose the name.
Cool car, pretty abysmal camera work.
Watched one of the other videos about the car and some youtuber "TheStradman" races it in his Bugatti. I only mention this because TheStradman was the most annoying person I've encountered in years and the fact he has 25 million youtube subscribers enabling him to buy exotic cars is a sure sign of the end times.
Id like to mke the argument that if you know the buyer by name before the frame is laid, and you dont expect to clear 25 cars a year with a full team working on them that you are not making a production car, you're making a coach built car.
Or to be softer, how many cars are required to be made for homologation with lemans or wrc?

Have you met Stradman in person or are you just basing that on his video presentation style? Not saying you’re wrong. He does talk really fast but he says a lot of things in a short amount of time.

I'd never even heard of him before today.
