I hope I am posting in the right area, but I saw the engine and transmission for a Boxster at the local pull-a-part yard, already on a pallet. Today I saw that they had a price on it, $510 and some change.

Winston Salem, NC, wanted to give a heads up. I can get the year and more info if anyone needs.

I just want to help folks out for, to me, what seems like a cheap engine/trans combo

Did you notice if it was a five or six speed? I've been told that the six speed is much stronger.

Someone should stick it where the back seat used to be in a New Beetle driving the rear wheels, put "Poorsche" decals on it, and take it to PCA events...

In reply to BlueInGreen - Jon :

If you squint, the new new Beetle looks like a 356 coupe. Its perfect idea.

034 sort of did this already, although with a Golf shell not a NB, and with an Audi V6 not a Porsche engine, but the rest of it was Boxster parts.  No reason the Audi engine couldn't be substituted for a Porsche one and the NB shell used.

If it was closer I'd snag that in heartbeat.
