Wow.
I love this quote: The concept was hardly sensible from the amount of effort that would be required, but it ticked the boxes for both authenticity and power.

Fits right in here, I'd think.
Beautiful and fun to see a playful spin thru the motor parts bins rather than the obligatory polished crate motor most would have dropped in.
Th could have gone with an Indycar Buick and saved a bunch of money for the same horsepower goal. But then that build is not about saving money. Actually I am not sure what the goal is anymore. It's not a MGB, doesn't have a Buick engine and will not be a street car in any true sense.

I have been following this one for a while. What is remarkable is the lack of compound curves in the new bodywork. The tin was only used to form the foundation for a fiberglass mould.
While I think their mission statement is a pipe-dream, especially with the complexity of the Lotus heads, I applaud the whole effort.
plans for pneumonic valves to go into the head
Wait, wut?
I'm with bearmtnmartin. Find an old indy motor, drop it in, fab up the correct manifolds, and you're done with the engine.
What? Speedhunters has an article about a car that isn't horribad?
The final product idea makes me think it's something that Nissan should look at for the next Z
In reply to tpwalsh:I feel just the opposite about the Indy Motor. As someone else said, they could always just drop a crate in there and be done with it. This motor is more along the lines of what I wish the TR-8 had in it.

Yes, but they include the over used term "bespoke" At least it was only once.
They lost me here:
the Rover engine equally renowned for its power but poor air flow
Anyhoo, nit-picking over its a cool ride. I love shooting brakes.

Old Indy motors aren't exactly junkyard material in the UK...
One of the UK rags I read had an article about the car, it looks like the guys involved substitute ingenuity for money, a sentiment that should be familiar to members of this forum.
The Buick/Olds/Rover V8 is an amazing engine. Lets also not forget that in 1966 Brabham won the F1 world championship by adding SOHC cam Repco heads to a destroked to 3.0 litres stock block. The only time in history when a stock block won the F1 championship.

Very True. I guess I was more along the lines of "copy an old Indycar motor" and drop it in. I really want to hear the rest of this story, just not sure if ambition outweighs resources.
Pneumatic valves seem like overkill, or doing just for doing's sake. Maybe they're targeting over 12,13000rpm, which then I can see it, but it seems pretty far down the list on "ways to make the engine better"
