I'd give him $499 for it.

Then I'd disassemble it for parts. A lot of the parts have possibilities. As a whole...

I kinda like it. Would not buy it at 5k though. Maybe half that.

I don't like it. The rust looks bad and it's so low that you have to worry about the chassis getting wedged against the road at a slightly inclined driveway like this.

Another fad that needs to die, along with 'stance' and putting air bags on every 1960s pickup truck. The only thing that doesn't bother me about these abortions is they are made of junk nobody with a right mind would ever try to salvage, so they don't really ruin anything. I just don't get the appeal of driving something that REQUIRES you to have a tetanus shot.

Also, get off my lawn.

I have zero love for 99% of rat rods out there and this one falls in the majority. But I could see buying it cheaper, yanking the motor, then selling the shell etc to some other rat rod fool.

To me, a rat rod is defined by the elegant engineering that is hidden under a deceptively crusty surface.

I would need to see what has been done under the skin before I passed judgement. Edit: I don't like anything I see in the pictures.

Aesthetically, I can see and appreciate where he WANTED to go with this, but I don't think he quite got it.

Is it worth 5k? It would be to someone who is going down the same path and had a similar vision; if the parts and engineering get you a head start over what it would cost to get there.

I sooo get building something with whatcha got and finishing it off with your buddies parts in trade for a 12-pack but to spend most of your hard earned money and time to make something look like E36 M3 is beyond stupid.

And yes, that is me judging someone.

car looks well built for what it is... wonder how high it sits with the bags inflated?

and that rear suspension intrigues me:

i've had that exact upper control arm design in my head for a while as a way to get a 3 link rear without needing a panhard bar to locate the axle housing.. wonder how it works from a functional standpoint?

The Liberty uses that setup, just turned around (the pivot ball is on the diff and the bushings on the body). Seems to work OK. I have a Panhard on my 3 link so I can change the roll center if needed.
