My coworker finally scratched his J-Tin itch again with this:

I didn't even know what it was! It's a 79 Corolla Liftback SR5. 2TC 1.6L with a 5-speed manual, rear wheel drive. Should be a fun little project.

Sweet! Love me some obscure J-tin! Tell him he has to join the forum and start a build thread.

Darn! I was hoping for a Cimarron, or maybe a Firenza.

I had a friend in high school with one of those. Awesome little car.

I always thought they were kinda cool. My sister was looking at buying one of those for her first new car in 1980 or so. Wound up with a Celica liftback instead.

My physics teacher in H.S. had one of those that I nearly bought off of him. I ended up with a 80 Corolla instead--- 2 door notch with the 1.8. Mine was lighter and faster! (well maybe less slower....)

hmmm, think I saw that... not sure if it was in CL... or one of the J-Tin forums.

"T" series engines are great for boost, durable as a rhino... A 3 angle valve job helps greatly with flow. Last of the leaf sprung models, the Corolla went to rear coils in 1980

He's got a build thread on JNC. It died on him today and he thought the timing got off somehow. I took for a spin and immediately diagnosed a plugged fuel filter. Good thing we work for NAPA . 2 minutes later and it was purring like a kitten again.

I've got him into doing a very thorough tune up this weekend on it to start.

Despite being a "Datsun" guy I always liked these and the 2TC/3TCs are sturdy but frankly I wouldn't consider it oddball. Early Suzuki SC, Isuzu or Hino sure but a Corolla? Regardless there are lots of fun mods that can be done on these for not a lot of bucks. Tom
