It's not 25yrs old, how's it here legal? It titled and plated? Cool car, but I'd fear the possible legal hassle. Buy and hide it for 5 years?

Canada.
Could one buy it,and bring it to the US to hide away in the garage for those 5 years? What I mean is would they let you bring it into the US even though you couldn't title it,or register it?
IIRC they aren't that easy to convert to manual and I'm not sure that the obvious choice of six-speed will grok the torque from the 20B...
Nah, a manual swap would be pretty easy. All rotaries (except, IIRC, the very early 10A) share a common bellhousing bolt pattern. The hardest part would be getting a JDM yO pedal cluster so you wouldn't have to 'roll your own'.
IIRC it will have to be an FD pedal box or something along those lines. Should be fairly easy to get in Japan if you can find someone to ship it.
I would think the swap is doable, but these were never available with a manual so source a pedal set would have to be a matter of using some other models pedals. An FD set should in theory work, but who knows for sure.
According to this forum, an FC (probably Turbo) transmission, master cylinder, and slave cylinder work with a little firewall bracing for the master cylinder and a Miata pedal box.

Pre-'74 are supposed to be different. 20B engines are also slightly different but they're close enough.
I don't get why you'd want a manual trans in a luxobarge. It's Mazda's equivalent of a Q45 or LS400.
Well, how about this. Buy it from the lame-o who says it has a "20btt" and then go to PCS and get these paddle shifters and this trans controller. If it's not the RA-4EL, it's the heavier duty version only sold here as one of the Nissan units, so it's PCS-supported.
$1300-odd is probably 50-100% more than a manual swap would get you, but... so what? If you're going to go different, why not go all the way?

They are.

Because they never came that way. It's hot rodding's ethos.
