Yeah. Tires can get spendy, I put a set on the '05 Sequioa in '10 and dropped a grand. Michelin LTX M/S2. And the fourth tire was "free".

With local duties, a new set of mud tires for my Sammi would cost $800-$1.2k.

You can see why I've always bought used.

Edit: I did pay $900 to import the Z1SS on my Corolla though.

Just paid $1400 for tires for my Jeep.

good, all-season tires for the wife's 2014 Mazda 6 are going to be almost $1000 out the door, slightly over that for Michelins. At Discount. $1350's pretty reasonable for an S550 in comparison.

I have an engineer friend with a 2007 Z06. He calculated that with his Michelin pilot sport cups that he was spending more per mile in tire wear than gas given the mileage he got out of them I think he was pushing $2000 per set about 5 years ago.

That's about what a set of 275 Hoosiers runs, and I bet the ones on the Mercedes will go a lot further. :)

Either you haven't bought tires in a while, or you haven't bought large-diameter tires.

When it comes time for new tires for my F-150, I fully expect to pay that much. It sucks, but what are you gonna do?

Not surprised in the least. This also shows some of why I put my Mustang in storage and now race my Miata.

Dear Lord, I've been living in la-la land apparently. I about choked when we spent something like $750 OTD for mama's car.

I'm used to maybe $500 for ok - ish/budget rolling stock, sizes are 15, 16, 17 - are 18's and above just that spendy?

$1,000 or more for tires just feels wierd to me, but apparently it's the going rate.

New tires for the wife's Prius recently: $250(ish) mounted and balanced. Something to be said for 14" tires...

All I can say is, wow.

Four of my vehicles run on 15s and one on 16s. Tires are $500 or less a set.

Just paid $580 at Costco for a set of Michelins for my '93 F150 after one blew and the other were showing signs of dry rot. Something to be said for old vehicles and OEM sized tires.

Mind you, a set of tires for the 996 is going to run between $1000-$1500 and probably last the summer or a little longer than that. They're hard on tires, especially on the rears.

I've been shopping for wheels for Ugly lately, and people run everything from 14 to 17-inchers on E30s. I settled on 15s because it's the best compromise between having a decent tire selection and cheaper prices. I can get some decent Dunlops in 205/50R15 for $71 each on Tire Rack. Sold!

So apparently I'm never going to own anything larger than a 16" tire ever. EVER. That's crazy cash. I spent $550 back in the day for AWESOME snow tires with a 15" wheel and tons of sidewall and I thought I was a wild spender.

This is one of the myriad reasons people say, Miata Is Always The Answer.
