I get it now. You could get another NA Miata instead of new tires for some of these cars.

This is why I usually buy the Korean tires. Bridgestone, Michelin, Goodyear are just ridiculously overpriced. I got 4 20" Kumhu Ecsta 4x for my Buick Regal GS from Tire Rack for $600 shipped.

The 20" wheels and tires for my Mustang ran me $1700 (the tires were $200 each: BFG G Force Sport Comp-2s)

I was thinking it might be cheaper to sell the stock 20"s on the Grand Cherokee and buy 4 new 18" steel wheels and tireS than buy just 4 new stock tires.

This is why so many people drive on bald tires in the rain and snow. They can barely afford their car payment and never thought about how much tires were going to cost. Surprise!

All of my cars have 15" or 16" tire by choice.

Yep, that's why I went with 15" wheels and tires for my JK Wrangler instead of the more popular 17". A set of 5 33x12.50x15 Goodyear Duratracs were $945. The black 15" MB Razors (Discount Tire band wheels) were $435 for 5.

I guy I know who has a sweet JKU put 35" BFG Baja TAs on his Jeep. Those are $647 each!

I spent $575 on Miata tires this morning. That hurts me.

I don't even want to talk about the $1000 tire sets the MX6 eats like candy.

On the flip side, i just got tires on the Jeep for $324.

Tires are a petroleum product right? Well, oil ain't cheap... oh wait...

(currently sits at about $56 / barrel which is the 2005 level)

So, I am sure they will get cheaper real soon.... rrriiiigghhhttt. Along with the higher shipping costs etc.

Seriously though, has anyone seen any decrease in tire prices? I know there should be a bit of a lag, but come on, we are talking HALF the price in a year here!

Just spent $1200 on tires for One Lap. I'm hoping they last the whole week. I know it's a special situation, but it's still painful.
If I'm lucky then I can get home on them after the event. If not, then I get to hand Tire Rack ANOTHER $1200.
Tires are a big part of why I bought the Civic.

The only bad part about owning old heaps is knowing new tires & inspection sticker is more than the scrap value of your car.

I only keep comp on my TC to keep Roadside so I can have it towed to the shredder for last rites when it refuses to be resuscitated any longer.

My local Kia dealer gave me the best deal on continental cross contacts.

They matched town fair who matched tire rack, and they were half the price on M&B.

It was still $650 for tires on the sedona, but it could have been worse if we had the optional 17" or 18" instead of the 16" steelies.

I cringe anytime I look at prices for tires larger that 16".

FWIW, I was able to get a set of 17" Kuhmos for the GTO for $376 out the door at Discount Tire a few weeks ago. I didn't think that was too bad.

265/50R20 Conti CrossContact are $163 each on Tirerack. That said, for a street car tires are the least of the cost concerns. On a race car.... Well, that is why I race in spec Miata and not at the pointy end of the field.

18" Z2s on a FWD Lancer installed are like $1K. They're only 225 wide, too. I'm so over the idea of huge wheels on cars. My car looks weird with smaller wheels because they visually fill out the tall sides, but bleurgh. Designers, get on this. Bring back the 15s!

Buying 944 tires doesn't even hurt. Buying Lancer tires makes me want to trade the car for eight more 944s.

Only E36 M3. Only way we sold tires at the dealer was to hawk them for about a max of 12%, mostly less to the point of why having them sit around and rot.

A good set of tires on most cars nowadays is approaching a grand, and Ive seen WAY higher than that. About the only exceptions are the few cars you can get a common 15" or 16" size on, which is not very many, lower profile, higher speed ratings, but still ride like an comfy all season and E36 M3 gets expensive.

I dont remember buying a set of GOOD tires that were under a grand since i started driving, except my 14" BFG Radial T/As for the 69 firebird, i think I only had 600 in those.

Ive bought E36 M3 tires for way less, but I am big fan of getting the good stuff, Im a big fan of Michelin and Bridgestone and their family trees.

Last set of tires I bought was for the wife's Av, 265/70r17 Nitto Terra Grapplers, about $800 for 4 of them mounted and balanced.

I really E36 M3 a brick for the $400 I spent in the E36 M3tiest tires ever for the Dakota.
