This thread makes me happy. It has Capris in it. Even better, no one said "what's that?"

I'm surprised there isn't one of these yet:

Oh my, what the...

I'd honestly love to meet the person who spent thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours to make that thing. There's no way he/she could be boring. Quite possibly insane, but not boring.

Maybe I missed it (and I'm not going to go back and look now!), but I'm surprised nobody has posted this one fine piece of autoness:

It's a Mangusta. The predecessor of the Pantera.

It must be just about the only Mangusta that was ever actually raced.

And like the Pantera, the Mangusta uses a Ford Capri steering column. The turn signal switches are delicate and haven't aged well and all the demand has made them quite expensive.

I substituted a Fiesta switch in my Capri. If anyone here has a daily driver Mangusta that needs a turn signal switch I can talk you through it.

I love having loads of useless information.

You don't want an original one unless you just want a trailer queen! It is the most evil handling car I have ever driven. Fun yes! But if you think the learning curve is steep on a 911 you haven't seen anything. Mods on a Pantera or Mangusta actually make them better and worth more, except for a show car.

A few decades ago, there was a magazine names SportsCar Graphic - sort of a predecessor of GRM. The staff included Paul van Vaulkenberg, who went on the write several highly regarded books on racing and engineering.

The magazine staff tested the Mangusta and they were dismayed/disgusted with the out-of-the-box handling characterists. So, they got permission (from the importer) to commence with testing and modifying the car. The process was covered over the span of two to three issues and they succeeded (to a large degree) by applying some basic engineering principles.

And they railed on De Tomaso for building a car but never making any real effort to build it "right".
