If it was a clean body (like the million mile Lexus LS400) then I think that it would maybe be worth a look but it is rough, which is naturally unsurprising.
First, let's cover the obvious reason this listing is insane: This is probably the highest-mileage AMG 63 car in the entire world. The owner bought it on January 9, 2008, and ditched it on March 25, 2016, which means he used the vehicle for a total of 2,998 days. Given the mileage figure of 395,839, that means he drove 132 miles a day... every day... for more than 8 years. That's roughly 4,000 miles every single month.
What's so remarkable about this driving distance? If it were a 200 mile EV he'd have enough charge left at night to get to work the next day even if he didn't plug the car in. This means the guy hardly drives, according to our EV threads
(yes, in the article you see that he didn't ring those miles up at a smooth rate...)
I have th same car, but in Blue. Nice to see that it was able to last that long.
Based on the wheels, that car, like mine, has the performance package, which included ridiculous brakes (15.4" rotors that are $1100 each, 6 piston calipers) and a very rare limited slip rear end. Those wheels alone are worth about 500 each in rough used condition, it took me 2 months to round up a spare set.
I'm curious about the back story. New this was a 125,000 car. That the driver flogged nearly 6 figures worth of gas through over 8 years. What sort of E36 M3ty job requires nearly living in your car but pays so well you can do it in supreme luxury without regard to running costs?
Salesman or drug runner?
I've read about guys like this. They drive instead of fly. It doesn't always have to be work related. But, yeah, since he relied on his car, you'd think it'd be a little nicer. And 6200 is still way too much.
Was wondering why it was slammed, now I see the air suspension is busted. I'm sure that is cheap and easy to fix.

This is crazy.....would love to hear the prior owner's story. Wonder what he is driving now?
I have to say, if I had to drive that much an AMG Benz would be at the top of my list, but I would probably go S class.

$0.54-0.575 per mile if driven for business per the federal government (it changes some every year). If he only used that car for work in the eight years, he was paid $217,250 to drive his own car, if you use $0.55 per mile as an average. That car paid for itself after 227,272 miles and at 49,375 miles per year on average, he had it paid for in 4.6 years. And it was still worth $6300. Take away the almost 6 figure gas bill you figured and he's still in the black.

Financial Wholesaler or Medical Sales
I'd put money on it being one of those two.
It's definitely not hard to rack up serious miles when you more or less drive for a living. I used to work with a project manager who put over 250K miles on a E34 525i in less than 5 years. Including an unknown number of trips into NYC. Still had the original clutch when he donated it after buying a (then totally brand new) ML320.
I'm running about 40-50k a year at the moment. Its not hard if you drive during the day. Id hate to put mileage like that and eat the repair bills though.
If the engine in my Cruze goes I can source a $500 junkyard motor rent a car and pay another $500-$1000 to have it put in.
They are such a nice place to spend time though. Sonic's car is pretty incredible. The distronic adaptive cruise control makes long stretches of driving effortless once you get used to it. The seats are great. Stereo is great. As much power as you need. As long as maintenance and premium fuel isn't too much they're spectacular. Much nicer than a regular car if you're going to spend 4-8 hours a day in the drivers seat.
