I've decided that my 240sx's horn is too wimpy and wouldn't be heard by others in traffic if I ever needed it.

Therefore I've decided that I need to buy an ooga horn.

Preferably I'd like to get a real deal Model A horn, but those are pricey. Anybody have any experience with the autozone/ebay variety and do they actually sound any good?

Any other interesting sounding horns you can think of I might be able to pull off of something at a junk yard? 12v and ready to be wired right in.

I don't want to go into air tanks and all that junk. Nor do I want train horns that would probably cause more accidents than they'd prevent.

The harbour freight ones are loud, but don't really make the right sound in my opinion. They are cheap though. About $10 on sale.
As for other options, is your 240 painted orange with doors welded shut? If so...

I'm curious - do people have a need to honk their horns all that much? I can't remember the last time I ever did.

I have one on my '75 Duster and I love it.

I don't have a need to honk my horn all that much. But when I do...I want to be HEARD.

If I could find an electric horn that would make me worry about battery life if I "stayed on it" too long...that's about what I'd like to have.

I can't drive a car without a working horn.

I need a new horn for the rover. The stock one sounds way too whimpy for something as big as it is.

I rarely honk at people.. just a polite "beep" to remind them that the light is green

I don't use my horn unless it's an emergency and I don't like other people honking unless they have too. But the idea of having an "OOGA! OOGA!" horn cracks me up.

Same as putting a duck call on your blow off valve.

Wolo makes all the novelty horns. Could spend hours messing around on their site.

Their Fun Horn is listed as an Ooga horn, but sounds more like a submarine "dive" klaxon.

OOOGAH Sample

Just for fun, I put their Beep Beep one in the shop van when the factory horn failed. It sounds close to a Road Runner horn, but it's probably just a fork lift horn.

I brought in one of their Big Bad Max horns for a customer with an air cool VW. He wanted a big air horn to startle people in traffic. This one is easier to package in the Bug.

The PC speakers aren't going to give the 123dB kick.

Here's a question. If I do find a real ooga horn how do I run it at 6 volts off of a 12 volt battery using the existing wiring?

You clearly don't drive in Chicagoland.

You'll need to log in to post.
