Ended up buying the '09 GL550 mentioned in my last post. Pre-purchase inspection revealed zero issues, all service complete and new front air-ride struts(win). After recommendations from everybody and their brother, we also bought a bumper to bumper extended warranty from the local Mini dealer. I know most of this doesn't sound very grassroots but I promise I haven't changed. The wife says this is a forever car so we decided to go for it. Car is kick ass to drive, nothing but smiles.

Good call on the extended warranty. I know my aunt has had a few of these.... She likes them
Rondo was her second choice.
After over 1500 miles in this thing I feel much better than our Envoy after a road trip, not nearly as beat up. Turns heads wherever we go and the air conditioned seats keep my junk feeling fresh.
so you're saying no 525i???
bummer

And why won't a salesman admit there's been accident damage when it's obvious?!? I know what the Carfax says but the damage is blatant.
I don't shop at dealers often at all but i always have to try not to roll my eyes when they talk about showing me a carfax. There are probably tons of cars with clean carfaxes that have still had minor hits/repairs. I just helped my dad buy one of those cars. It's very possible for a repair to be done well enough that it's not an issue at all. But it's also possible for a car with a clean carfax to have a chunk of body filler that's going to pop off in 6 months.
the air conditioned seats keep my junk feeling fresh.
Out of all the different little bits of progress in the vehicle world, THAT feature is the thing i look forward to the most. Soon enough vehicles carrying it will depreciate into my price range. And then Texas will be a little less E36 M3ty.

About 4 years ago, i went and looked at a 2000 Celica GTS 6spd. Wanted the car really badly. Drove great.
Got out after the test drive, took a closer look. At least 60% of the panels weren't lining up correctly. Headlight housing was cracked on the back, had been badly sealed up with silicone. Passenger front wheel had been repaired, and badly... looked like it was repaired still on the car and there was overspray on the brake caliper.
They were asking $11k for it, i was planning on offering in the $8.5k range if it turned out to be worth buying, since it had been on the lot for 45 days or so.
I saw the damage, turned around, offered the salesman $3500. He got all indignant "Why so low? This is a beautiful car!"
I pointed out the hideous flaws, telling him it had been wrecked HARD.
"But it's got a clean Carfax!"
I don't think he understood how few berkeleys i gave about his Carfax.

I think Mercedes actually uses that in their ads, good selling point.
The Saab 9-5 was the first car to have them, it was a pricey option though. When we were looking for a bigger car for my wife when our 2nd son was born we know we wanted a 9-5 Aero but my wife said it had to have the ventilated seats and I am glad she insisted, they do rock.

Epic win. I wish more cars had this.
One year update? Inquiring minds want to know
