Bmw 2002, 72 front half welded together with a 68 back end. Rough shape, been sitting for a long time, rust surprisingly from what I'm told is very minimal some dents and dings in the body

I wouldn't make an offer on a half-cut re-welded car unless it was for parts or doinking around with and then parting. I wouldn't trust most people's workmanship enough to drive it or race it.
Hell I can go take a look at it and my offer could be to take it home with me and get it out of his hair. worst he could say is no and it wouldnt be the first time someone said yeah to that question

LOL. I was questioning the use of the word "opportunity" as I read this.
ryanty22...
I understand the word, I understand the risks. I am just trying to justify getting SWMBO pissed by dragging home a beautiful reclamation project
In that case, use the value of the parts as justification. "It's worth a mint to collectors! I'll clear a grand for sure! My life long dream has been to own one! Why don't you want me to be happy??"

Yeah I can try this. Not to confident but i can try. Best bet is to wait till mid month then drag it back here so it's initially unnoticed
ryanty22 wrote: The worst part, looks like it was sideswiped and pushed off the road, where it still sits.
Fixed that for you. That said, I would get it if I could get it for basically free.

Were I to get this I might entertain trading you the hood for your motorcycle
if it's free, go ahead and get it. document it here, so we can all point our spouses to this thread and use you as an example of "hey, at least i'm not as bad as that guy!"
not kidding.
for cheap enough - why not? how bad is the work? if it's just the nose piece that's grafted on a 68 shell, that's not a big deal. I had a 71 with a 74 nose. It is a big deal if the thing was sliced in half in the main shell/structure.

Someone on here has had to have drug home something worse at some point or another

You can piss your wife off with something a lot better than that.

Ah, a German Christine. What's the worst that could happen?

How encouraging
I know of 4 of these rusting away in a field. Sadly the guy is a BMW hoarder for anything BMW related. His parts prices are off the wall.
Part it out. I dragged home a 1968 Datsun 2000 for $128 and the wife's first suggestion was I take it to the junkyard. I sold most of it on ebay for over $2,100. I lost 15-20% to ebay and the trailer rental and gas. I netted about $1,500.

I'll bet that "shut" her up after that.
In reply to Sine_Qua_Non:
I took $750 and bought her a ring from Tiffany's Jewelry store. It felt good to pay cash for a gift for her.
