I have friends who have spent time in the product planning departments. It sounds like a neat job but, of course, it's tempered with reality: What people say they want vs. what they actually drive. Case in point: six-speed Subaru Legacy GT wagons.

In reply to David S. Wallens:
Or in many cases: what they want vs. what the are willing to - or can - pay for.
Agreed, and I get that. Hell, I even make fun on this very forum about people who complain their ideal car is X + Y + Z and why can't they get that, and then turn around and without any sense of irony at all also say they refuse to buy a new car.
But in this case, I'm not talking about an combination that would cost the manufacturer any extra money to make.
I've noticed you have a lot more granularity of options with big, overpriced pickup trucks. Maybe it's a volume thing?
I occasionally get bored and see just how expensive I can make an F-450 King Ranch Platinum Dick Extension.
What's truly hilarious is that the blue non-A-spec TLX is only available with a black interior, not grey... while the blue ILX is only available with a grey interior, not black!
You can't make this E36 M3 up.
I just discovered the Which Wich sandwich shop chain this week - I wish you could option out cars like their subs.
For those who've never been, when you walk in the door there's a turnstile mounted above a table with brown sandwich bags in bins all the way around. The bags/bins are labeled by sandwich category: "Italian", "Seafood", etc., and some of their specialties like the "Wicked". You pick the bag for the category you want, write your name on the top & check a whole bunch of options about meats/cheese/veggies/sauces/dressings/etc. and take it to the counter. They fix your sub, put it in the bag & hand it back to you.
So rather than having set "bundles", you could choose an option package - say "Sport", but then within that package you'd have a choice for which individual options you wanted: Recarro's - check; Brembo's - no thanks; Handling Package - check...etc. However, you wouldn't be able to choose the "Premium" package, then add on the Recaro's, since they're not part of that package.
