I managed to nuke another 22RE in the 87 4Runner. The engine always had a bit of a rattle, but I convinced myself that it just was the valves. Nope. Its a death rattle.

on Milwaukee's Cl, I found a 90 4X4 truck with terminal rust and wiring issues for only $350. The owner seems legit about what the truck is: a beater with a heater. Anyway, I'm going up to see it tomorrow.

My question is, if it all pans out, what do I do with the truck once I steal its heart?

My options are:

Try to sell the hulk back on CL, maybe for what it cost me.

Pull parts that I might be able to keep or sell on CL like the trans, doors, etc...and then call Pick-n-Pull.

Or take the slightly higher pay from Pick-n-Pull for a more complete truck?

Or scrap the hulk at a local scrapyard? I'll have to figure in the cost of a dolly to get it there.

Bare in mind I'll only be able to sit on this thing for about 2 weeks trying to sell or scrap it.

I would say first do 1., then 2. if the truck doesn't sell before you need it gone.

Strip it of everything you may or may not think you'll need because the don't make 'em anymore!

Then figure out how to get the most for what's left (load it up with as much extra scrap you can find.)

pull what you need and try to sell it as a roller for 300 to someone who wants an offroad beater?

scrap is way down right now, so if you haven't taken in anything in a couple years cut your expected price by 50-70%. i was appalled the other day when an 860# load got me $43.

Or maybe call those "pick up your scrap" outfits to take it away.

Challenge car seems to be the correct answer as of yesterday.

I don't think it qualifies for the Challenge. There is enough missing pieces, that it breaks the rules on intact sheet metal. There is more bailing wire, bungees and ratchet straps than steel.

You'll need to log in to post.
