33 days, 100 cars, 8000 miles, nothing newer than 1975, no trucks, no "commercial" type vehicles, no spare engines, transmissions, or axles, no support equipment other than what you can carry. Due to poor fuel quality they recommend 8:1 compression or less. Oh, and in a lot of places, no asphalt.

I'll probably never be able to afford it, but it would be a lot of fun.

I love the fact that these cars are being driven in addition to being gawked at and admired.
A few years ago there was a caravan of cheap cars from Britain to Morocco. There were three guys who bought Triumph Herald estates for 150 pounds each and drove them there.
I want a Citroen DS rally car. Badly.
I would totally rock a Z there. I love those kinds of events.
Another vote for Mercedes. There's a reason they are the choice of third world dictators.
Pre War Rolls for the most stalwart. Ahem.
My father-in-law did the 2008 Peking to Paris rally in a 1930 Chevrolet coupe. He had a great time, and it was close to being the perfect car for the event. I think the route has changed significantly since then, not sure an American can make it through the route.

I was thinking the exact same thing...it would probably do the job fine without any mods.
Here is a great read on this event from a woman who did it with her husband and survived. Zero previous experience. Learned how to read a map after getting to China.
