The "brakes" on a soapbox car is a board...
Did Goodwood not do this ONCE?
If memory serves the soapbox derby race that was meant to be a bit of light humored fun, was hijacked by the F1 boys who showed up with wind tunnel tested carbon fiber designs that flew down and off the road.
I've done a bit of gravity racing, our little town has a race. More Lemons than Le Mans
You need a Team:
Junkyard Racer:
Metropolinator:
With FIRE!
What's the largest go-kart tire you can buy?
Edit: looks like about 9" wide slicks.
I wonder if that would provide enough grip for the trip down?
Manual brakes might be interesting though the car would probably be pretty light.
Okay, now I want to build a serious gravity racer. Which I suppose is basically a lay down shifter kart with no engine.

I was just looking for a picture of that to post, you beat me. I remember that from the 1980's. Me and my BMX friends would hold unofficial downhill road races, but then I got older and discovered sport bikes, with motors.
